***Still Carl's POV***

"Hey Dad! Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Sure, son. What do you need?"

"Well, it's about Amie."

"What about her?"

"I feel really guilty about what I said to her, but she won't let me apologise. And I think I like her. Like, like her."

"I knew about the second part. It's pretty obvious. But I would need to know what you said to her before I can help you with that."

I hesitated. I didn't want to tell him what I said; I didn't want to tell anyone what I said. "I told her that she was the reason I was being such a jerk; that she wasn't welcome here. I had her bag in my hand, and I was packing her things. I don't know why I did it. I know that I shouldn't have said what I said, especially after I saw all of her scars. She did it again, Dad. She hurt herself because of me. She won't let me apologise for any of it. I tried, Dad, I really tried. I want her to forgive me. I want us to be together. I want her to love me like I love her. I know I sound immature, but that's how I feel about her. What should I do?" Woah. I can't believe I just let all of that out.

"Son," Dad said after a minute. "You need to do what you feel is right in your heart. Let her know how you feel. She's either gonna accept your apology and move on with life, or she's just gonna keep ignoring you. There's really no way of knowing. You just have to go with your gut." I didn't know how to respond. I was about to get up, but my dad held me down. "I want you to have this. You seem responsible enough to handle it. Heaven knows that you'll need it." He handed me a gun; a small handgun. We talked for a little longer, then decided to go back to the camp.

I stood up and was walking down the ladder when I felt soft, warm arms around me, which reassured me, because I knew it wasn't a walker. I was spun around and I felt lips pressed against my own, which caused a catch in my breath. I opened my eyes to see Amie, no gimmicks, no hallucinations. "I forgive you. And I love you too." I couldn't believe this. I got down on one knee. "Amie Nicole Jacobs. Would you do me the extraordinary honor of being my partner; my love; my girlfriend?" She was crying tears of joy. "Yes, yes, forever in eternity yes." We kissed, and I picked her up and spun her around and around, until I got dizzy and we both toppled down into the straw and the hay. We were giggling and laughing, almost forgetting the horrors of this world. Then something serious crossed my mind. "We can't tell anyone. My mother would have a heart attack. My dad would have an idea, but we still can't tell anyone." That made the mood more solemn. "So what will we tell them? If they get suspicious? I know someone will."

"I don't know. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." We were lost in the moment. I understood that Big & Rich song now.

"DINNER!' We heard someone calling everyone in. "I guess we should go face reality now." I got up and took her hand, pulling her out of the straw. She was giggling. "What?" She giggled more. "I have a boyfriend. And that boyfriend has straw in his hair." I decided to play along. "You should see my girlfriend's. It has even more straw than mine!" She was giggling harder now.

"Come on. We don't want more suspicion than necessary to arise. We walked out of the barn, stopping at the tent to brush the straw out of our hair.

We walked in the house to the smell of bacon and fresh baked bread. "Someone please tell me we are having BLTs for dinner tonight!" The closer to the kitchen we got, the more we could smell. I picked up lettuce, tomatoes, and something else that I couldn't pinpoint. I walked in and saw Beth, Maggie, and Hershel in the kitchen, cutting vegetables, bread, and pretty much everything else we would need for dinner.
"Go ahead and sit down. Everything will be out in a minute." "I'll help. You go sit down, Carl. I'll be in soon." I went to the dining room and sat down with everyone else.

***Amie's POV***

"Go ahead and sit down. Everything will be out in a minute." Beth said to me and Carl, who had just walked into the kitchen. "I'll help. You go sit down, Carl. I'll be in soon." Beth gave me a look; the look that said a hundred things and asked a thousand questions.

'Meet me in the bathroom in one minute' I mouthed to her. Then I acted like nothing happened and carried a platter of freshly sliced bread out to the dining room table. I walked down the hall and went in the bathroom, waiting for the secret knock we came up with at summer camp in 2008. When I heard the knock, I unbolted the door and let her in.

"You saw the whole episode on the porch. I saw Rick and Carl walk to thebarn. I followed them and hid in the hayloft while I listened to their conversation. Carl told Rick, and I quote, 'I want her to forgive me. I want us to be together. I want her to love me like I love her.' I met him at the bottom of the ladder and we kissed. I told him I forgave him. And that I loved him too. Then he asked me to his girlfriend. And I said yes! Beth Greene, if you tell anyone, so help me I will find a walker in the woods and feed you to it." She got this huge smile on her face and started jumping up and down and sort-of screaming. She ran out of the bathroom and got more stuff from the kitchen to bring out. I followed her, my eyes meeting Carl's as I walked into the kitchen, causing me to blush. Beth grinned at me, making me blush even deeper.
Hershel gave thanks, and we ate. Carl and I made our way back to our tent together, and that first night, we slept in the same sleeping bag, enjoying each other's company.
