You ducked behind a pillar to hide out of sight. You didn't want a certain somebody spotting you or noticing how you snuck up to her locker to slip a love letter in. How you've been watching her from afar. Admiring the way your crush Marcy Wu yammered on and on about everything fantasy-related or something even nerdier. From her charming laugh to her dazzling dark eyes, you found yourself to be head over heels in love with her. Though, it doesn't help that your social anxiety restraint you from asking her out.

To her, you were just a supportive friend that shared the same common interests as her. You were there by her side in everything, even when her other friends turned away. You remember the quiet anger that you felt from the way Marcy stared tearfully at her friend Sasha who ripped into her. Insulting her character, her interests, and even her physical looks. Sasha was a real jerk along with Annie who stood there as a bystander. Annie kept tight-lipped despite the fact Marcy was her friend as well.

"That top of yours is so tacky, you dress like you're going to a funeral! How ugly!" Sasha sneered.

"My mom bought me this shirt..." Marcy whispered.

"Well, your mom has poor taste or maybe you're just unlucky! You're wearing hand-me-down clothes that well-off people donate to be "charitable" Sasha hissed. "You act like we're your best friend, but seriously you're a charity case! Annie and I just let you tag along because we feel bad for your dead social life." Sasha shot a glance to Annie who let out an awkward chuckle. Sasha's words were dumping more and more gasoline into a roaring fire. A fire that burned deep within your very soul, ready to be unleashed onto your opponents.

"Take a hike Waybright, we don't want your cattiness here." You boomed as you took a step closer to Marcy.

"Stay out of this you plain-looking plebian, you have no business in this conversation!" Sasha sneered.

"Oh, shut it, princess, take your self-entitled rumpus elsewhere!" You barked. "You have no right picking on Marcy, just because you're a jealous shrew who doesn't have half the decency that she has!"

"Oh, I see what you're doing here, you're defending your little girlfriend! That's so cute!" Sasha stepped closer; jabbing her finger in your direction. "Get lost loser, before I smacked you around silly."

"Try me you barbie-wannabe..."

It happened so fast, Sasha's hand collided with your right cheek. Your eyes widen as you gawked at the blond in shock. She held a Chesire grin on her face simultaneously raising her hand for another slap. Marcy stood there; her eyes were the size of dinner plates. Before she could inflict another blow to your face, you roughly shoved the girl to the floor. Time seemed to have slowed down a lot; you watched the blond hair girl collapse to the ground landing on her arm in a painful crack.

A loud yelp escaped her which triggered the other girls to jump into action. Annie ran to Sasha's side while Marcy ran up to you. You stood there glaring hatefully at Sasha. The rest was a blurry mess from having teachers separate an enraged Sasha from tearing you to pieces and you from sucker-punching her in the gut. All four of you were herded into the principal's office who sternly told all of you off. He was going to suspend you from the way Sasha's sob story of your brutish nature. Yet, the cameras were plenty of proof of Sasha's misconduct toward her fellow peers.

You got suspended for a couple of days while Sasha was suspended for a week. Your parents being the loving supportive people they were, adored the fact you stood up against a bully. You were given pats on the back and support from your close circle of friends. Even your crush appeared at your doorstep holding a basket full of candy and sweets. Looking quite flustered, Marcy shoved the basket into your hands. The brief moment of hand contact sent an electric spark throughout your whole body. Your heart practically leaped up into your throat as your anxiety transformed you into a blushing stuttering mess.

From that day forward, Marcy was glued to your side. She would often offer you apologies or overly compliment you. You were eating up the attention, but not wanting to appear as an egotistical brat. You reassured her kindly that it was no big deal, that you were sick of Sasha treating people so poorly. One of those days, you swore you caught her staring at you intensely. The same way you did when admiring her from afar. You knew that there was an unspoken chemistry between the two of you. Only if you had the confidence to make it official, but you were nothing more than a sniveling coward.

Your indirective was going to be your Achille's heel. You knew deep down there was another competition who admired your crush as well. How can you blame them? Marcy Wu was a vision along with crazy smart. You leaned against the pillar feeling your heart thunder in your chest. You finally had a way to finally ask her out, the winter homecoming dance was just right around the corner. It would be the perfect time to strike.

Yet, being trapped in your self-doubt led you to shove a hastily written love note in her locker. A thousand thoughts raced through your mind, "Would she like it? Would she say yes? Is it creepy to put a love letter in someone's locker? Is this weird? Am I being weird?" Anxiously, you found yourself quickly walking away from the pillar. There was no way you could face her in person. Heck, you might as well stay home rather than go to homecoming. You would just embarrass yourself badly.

You headed straight out of the school and into the parking lot. Finding your old beat-up red Cadillac crudely park in the furthest spot away from the school. You slipped into the car settling in the old ripped-up leather seat. Feeling a mix of regret and self-loathing, you cursed out loud about being such an oddball. Why couldn't you just be normal? Why not go up to her and ask her out in person? Stop being such a coward!

Wrapped up in your thoughts, they were thrown to the wind when your phone started to vibrate. Shakily, you lifted your phone to see Marcy had sent you a text. A cold sweat broke out on your forehead as your hands started to tremble. You unlocked the phone to find one singular message that sent your heart into a frenzy.

"Hey, I got your note dude, just wanted to let you know that...I would LOVE to go to homecoming with you! Consider it a date~ I'll pick you up at 6<3"

You couldn't believe it! Marcy accepted your invitation; this was perfect. You and your crush were going out! Oh gosh, you needed to get a dapper outfit and maybe get your hair done professionally! Maybe you should get a corsage of her favorite flowers! Maybe you should wear matching outfits? Gosh, there was so much to do. Yet, despite all these questions that race through your mind. You were just overall stoked about it.
