Len, with his money pouch and basket of groceries, confidently headed down towards his big old house.
The house was a rather elegant one, since it was a manor of a passed merchant after all. When Mr. KAITO, their father.. was alive, their house seemed more brighter and lively. KAITO had a gentle smile, he wasn't the stereotype of most merchants being greedy or bitter. He was a kind father, always putting his kids first, and to his lovely wife who he treated very well.
Now, since the spirit was gone after this illness...the hope seemed to be lost. For Len on the other hand, he kept his determination and hope to be just like his father and take care of everyone! Len opened the door steadily, to not wake his family.
"I'm home!" He said softly, then he placed the basket down in the kitchen. The delicacy box that he had held close was now prepared on the table as an elegant dessert.
"Hi honey.." It seems that MEIKO was in the doorway, but more frail and weary than his older sister. "You brought food? Let me help you Lenny.." Len stopped his mother, "No mom! Why are you out of bed? Sit down, okay? This is my responsibility!" Len gave a determined look to his mom.
MEIKO sighed and sat down fixing the worn blanket over the seat cushion. "Alright then.. Do you at least want me to call your sister?" MEIKO crossed her arms, a bit bored and out of concern for her child.
"It's all good Mom, just wait here and rest..I'll call Rin, you can just watch me then!" He gave a thumbs up and went right to cooking.
The delicacies seemed to be glancing over at MEIKO...or rather it was quite the opposite. MEIKO seemed to be intrigued by these strange desserts that were there without reason. All types of sweets, macarons, truffles, jelly donuts and cupcakes were there directly near MEIKO, her mouth watered a bit but she quickly shook her sick head. "Len honey, where did you get these sweets?" She pointed a weary finger at them. Len looked over as he was stirring the pot, "Oh that? I...got it from a kind friend." He blushed and smiled taking a while to think about Flo. Then, looking back to the pot filled with delicious meats and vegetables. "At first, I was going to get us some sweets..but the prices increased at the market. It's...for the upcoming ball, everyone's stocking up?" Len tapped his chin a bit confused. "Do you know anything about that mom?"
MEIKO smiled brightly, almost if as she wasn't sick. "Yes in fact, I do!! When Queen Teto was crowned queen, there was a big ball! That's where I believe she met Queen Haku, and they had a fling!" She giggled a bit. "And that ball...is where I met your father..." Her voice started to trail off. MEIKO gave a small sigh and looked back at Len. "But, the balls are for coronations...the whole kingdom gets invited. I believe the mysterious royal, Flower is going to be crowned. " She placed a hand on her cheek elegantly. "I do hope we get better soon so we can enjoy the ball together." She looked more weary, and Len dropped his things and helped her up in her chair, "Mom...I think I should give you the food in bed, okay?" MEIKO huffed, "Don't worry kiddo, your mom's still strong! Okay? But...if you say so.." She smiled.

After Rin, MEIKO and Len had finished eating the food in the big bedroom which MEIKO and Rin had to share. (They really enjoyed the special delicacies and smiled a lot. Saving some for later of course!) Len had decided to go outside and get the eggs from the chicken coop they had. He needed to think about the ball, after his mother explained to him and his older sister in great detail.
Len picked up the grocery basket, since it had many uses. He opened the backdoor where the chicken coop was, and grabbed some of the seeds for feeding. He walked towards them and threw the seeds gently, zoning out the clucks and pitter patter of chicken feet.
