THOSE DAYS

The Hometown Cake

Hi everyone, I'm Catherine. I just moved to a new city today which kinda looks more like I entered in a time period much before I was born as the buildings here are somewhat faded and the houses are joined together not even leaving a bit space for an ant to move . Although the house which we just shifted in is not better than the previous one but still I'm not complaining as our financial status is not much good . But aside from that,  No doubt that all the people in our new colony knows us now as my mother baked her special homemade cake with a special recipe and distributed one cake each to all the neighbors. I just don't know how can she go to stranger's houses and pass them the cake she made but I think all the mothers are like that only . When I was coming from the market after buying some books for my new school,  I saw my younger brother, by the way his name is Harry and mom talking to a lady.  Most probably she was also one of our new neighbor . As soon as I approached closer to them,  I hid my face to avoid talking to strangers like my mom did but as soon as I passed by her,  she shouted my name

" Catherine, Where are you going like that. You're  a girl but still so careless .Won't you greet aunt "
The aunt whom she just met

" Hello Aunt "
"Is she your daughter ? She's so sweet and pretty . In which class does she study? "
" Oh! She took an admission in St. Thomas high school "
"which grade? "
" senior 3 "
" oh really! What a coincidence,  my son studies in the same class as her and is in the same school. "
"Really "
" Yeah!  What a small world . She can go with him to school together. "

As both of them were talking and laughing , I thought it would be better for me to prepare for tommorow as it would be my first day in the new school and also because my dad was arranging the furniture and cleaning the house all by himself as we just moved in and on the contrary ,my mom was busy in talking to strangers and making them her friends.  As soon as we completed arranging all the things and keeping them in place ,my mom entered. I asked her

" Mom!  Can you please give me some money "
"What do you need now?  "
" As you know I'm going to a new school tommorow so I just want to buy my new school uniform "
" Why ? You just bought a new uniform a month ago "
" Yeah I know but it is of my previous school "
" So what?  We don't have enough money to waste Catherine "
" But you just bought a new uniform for Harry.  That's not fair. "
"How can you say that to your brother.  I just don't want to listen anything now. Just go back and wear the previous School's uniform "
" But mom!  "
"I already said what I needed to. No more words now "
