THOSE DAYS

The roll call

The next day I woke up with a quite familiar voice

" Catherine , get up. Look at you, what can I say. You've just gone wild during the holidays . You don't know that the school starts today ?"
It was the very moment when I just realized that today was my first day to school and I got late . I rushed to the washroom, brushed my teeth and putted on my clothes quickly. I didn't had enough time to do my hair so I just brushed it from above and tied it into a messy bun. I headed towards the school. I rarely saw any other school student on my way as I knew that I was extremely late. I entered the school and after roaming for at least twenty minutes or so, I found my classteacher. He was in the staff room and arranging some books. I headed towards him

" Good morning sir "
" good morning "
" Sir I'm the new transfer student and don't know where my class is. Could you please show me the way? "
"Oh! I thought you weren't going to come today but anyhow you're lucky. I was just heading to the class to take the attendance. Come with me "
As I was walking after him, I realised how big the school was. The playground itself looked like a vast stadium. As soon as we approached towards a class with fully crystal clear mirrors, I could hear some noises. Soon we entered the class and all the students were staring me. Not because I was a new student but probably because I wore a uniform which was quite different from them. Maybe it was way more different than I thought as I could see that all the eyes were not on me but on my uniform.
All due to my mom's thought of saving some money

As I lifted my face, I saw Lucas. He was looking at me and smiled when I stared him back. The teacher then asked me to introduce myself

"Hi everyone, I'm Catherine "
"Is that all? "
"Hmmm "
" Your new classmate is a bit shy , I guess. I hope you people help each other in future. Okay then Catherine , suit yourself and sit if any empty chair is left "
As I was going to sit ,the teacher called me again
" Catherine, as today is your first day then why don't you just take the attendence. You call the roll so that you can take the opportunity to know the names of your classmates "
"Okay sir "
"Okay students, you all have to cooperate .Just raise your hand if anyone's name is called "

Soon, the teacher left and the class was in chaos again. I started to call the names and as soon as I called Lucas's name, he raised his hand and passed me a bright smile that couldn't be more brighter. It was so good to have someone to smile that way as it eased my nervousness more than I thought it could. After calling a few names Arlo's name came. I knew that he wouldn't come today because of me but I still called his name. As soon as I said his name , a bag fell near my foot from nowhere. When I looked up, I couldn't beleive what I saw. I saw Arlo coming in the class though the Crystal clear window. I could hear his voice saying

"Oh! What a bad view and that also so early in the morning. No wonder my right eyelid kept twitching all the day from morning . Now I know that It was because you came to our class "
As soon as he said those words, all the students started laughing at me. I again felt uneasy standing in front of everyone and just watching like a clown as they all laughed at me . I thought I was going to tear up but the class teacher arrived at time.

" Arlo. Are you late again as always ?"
" No , I'm not "
"Yes you are. I saw you jumping from the window a moment ago .If you dare to be late again next time then just wait and see .Okay thank you Catherine, you can take a seat now"
"thank you sir "
There was only a seat left at the last corner of the class so I just sat there. When I looked forward , I saw Arlo staring me like he could kill me anytime .I didn't looked at that side again to avoid him and soon the classes began.
