It'd been four days since her encounter with Dr. Clark at the library. Four days since he'd acted a little different towards her other than his normal arrogant self. And four days since Lewa had unhappily welcomed daydreams about him.
She'd told herself everyday since Monday that it was just because he'd seemed a little different that day at the library; but no matter how hard she tried to psych herself into believing that, the dreams had come uninvited.
Even on Wednesday during her Ochem class, he'd barely glanced at her. It wasn't that it bothered her, but why was a part of her wishing he'd looked in her direction just once?
Lewa shook her head as she began putting on her work shirt over her tank top. She would need to keep reminding herself that Dr. Clark had a reputation she didn't like. Maybe that would help.
As soon as she began slipping on her shoes, her phone rang.
"Hey, girl, so you still haven't told me how things have been with your man. I mean, I won't even be bothered that he's barely shown up at the restaurant all week."
Lewa rolled her eyes before answering, "I told you to stop calling him that, Gina."
"Oh please, you know that's what you want him to be. You just don't want to admit it. Anyway, I'm waiting for the full details."
Lewa shut her eyes briefly, forcing Gina's words out of her head.
When she opened her eyes, she said, "Wait, aren't you supposed to be focusing on more important things like life after graduation, what that's going to be like? A job, grad school maybe?"
"Nope." Gina answered, placing emphasis on the 'p.'
"I don't plan on going to grad school, and as for the job, I have several interviews lined up. So I should be good. Tell me, how's his class been so far?"
Lewa took a glance at the time on her clock hanging on the wall in her room and released a sigh.
"Why don't we talk about this later after work? You should be preparing for work too as a matter of fact. I have to finish getting ready."
"Hmph, Okay, okay. I'll be patient. I'll stop by at like 7pm."
"Sounds good. Bye."
"Bye."
As soon as the call ended, Lewa slumped back on her bed and released another sigh. She began wondering why she felt so tired right now considering the fact that she'd had some good sleep last night. She yawned again as a knock sounded on the door.
Her mom walked in and sat on the bed next to her.
"Good morning, mom." Lewa greeted without looking at her as she busied herself with stuffing a notebook and a pen in her purse.
"Morning, honey. Are you okay? It's almost 7 am and you haven't even had breakfast."
Lewa turned to look at her, "I'm okay. I just don't feel hungry right now, but I'll be out soon."
Adeola studied her daughter, and a concerned expression appeared on her face.
"Since I'm off today, do you want me to take you to work?"
Lewa shook her head with a smile on her face. "You're so kind, ma. But I'm fine."
Another yawn followed.
"Okay. I'll pack your breakfast in a to-go plate and have that ready for you to take along."
"Sounds delicious."
Adeola laughed as she got up to leave.
No sooner had she reached the door than Lewa's body began to cave in, the pain in her chest getting more excruciating by the second. Then suddenly, she began to feel the suffocation within as she squeezed her body inward, hugging herself tightly. She could see a blurry vision of her mother approaching her quickly.
