First-person perspective

It's my first day back at school in almost two months... I think.

Matt and I walk into school together and prepare for our first periods.

Mine is Maths, as usual.

Matt walks me to G3, "You message me if you need anything, yeah?".

I smile, "Mattie, I'm alright".

"Okay, I'll see you at break". I nod and he walks away.

Walking into the classroom Mr Maddens immediately looks up at me, only me, even though I'm not the first person into the classroom nor the last.

That small smile he used to give me was slightly bigger, I missed it.

He was wearing a simple dark grey button-down, black pants and his regular shoes.

I wear my school shirt, skirt, scarf, some black stockings with leg warmers and my Uggs because no one cares or notices what you're wearing on your feet.

Sitting in my seat he begins the class.

"Good morning everyone" Mr Maddens gets everyone's attention, including Maria. She was turned to a table of guys and now faced the front to see me.

"Ugh you're back" she mumbles loudly.

I turn my head in her direction, "Oh my god shut the f-".

"Ms Lawson stay back after class, Ms Fernez you will be kicked out if you continue" Mr Maddens announces in between his sentences, we both sit back in our seats properly.

"Sorry Mr Maddens it won't happen ag-." She began.

"You say this most of my classes Ms Fernez, I'm waiting for your words to come true. Now sit and pay attention" he demands us both.

I giggle to myself, leaning forward into my table and covering my mouth with my hand.

I can tell he's done with Maria's bull, but isn't everyone?

"We will be continuing the topic of the last lesson, Victoria since you weren't here you can just continue taking notes from here".

I nod my head to Mr Madden's instructions.

The notes are simple, still revising from last year.

I love the topic we are on because we are allowed to use calculators and I can spell out... 'words' on the calculator then take a photo and send it to Matt.

...318008. Flip upside down.

The bell rings after a few and I pack my stuff away then pull my phone out to message Matt while I wait for everyone to leave.

Matt 😻

V: i have to stay back afyer class a mintue so just liek wait for me at the lockers.

V: After* minute* like*

M: LOL alr sweetie

The last person to leave closes the door and I walk to the front.

"You wanted to see me Mr Maddens?".

"Mhm, Ms Lawson you've been away from school for quite a while and I need to give you these papers you've missed," he says handing a small stack of about ten or fifteen pieces of paper with a paper clip over it, "Take your time with it, of course, I don't want to rush you".
