My POV
"Come on! Or we're going to be late!" I rolled my eyes chuckling at my best friend, Marinette. I knew she meant well and just badly wanted to get to the concert to see Adrian, her boyfriend. Took those two long enough to get together. Only took them the entire time in middle school. We had just started high school this fall and yet despite everyone going on different paths; the group stayed together.
"I'm almost ready!" I called out fixing my hair as I took a deep breath looking in the mirror.
"Well geez Elizabeth, if I didn't know any better, I'd ask if you were dressing up for a special someone."
"Yeah, yeah..."I blushed. When one romance ends, another began, and I had it bad for Luka Couffaine.
"Hey, Elizabeth!" Marinette called me over on our first day of high school, a slender but handsome-looking boy standing next to her. I blinked, a bit surprised that anyone's eyes could be that beautifully blue. "Remember my friend I was telling you about? This is Luka."
Oh right. He had gone to a different middle school, but with only one high school in the area, he could hang out with his friends a lot more.
"Hey, wonderful to meet you, Luka." I smiled brightly, causing Luka's smile to grow a little more.
"Hey, Elizabeth. I've heard nothing but good things."
I had a huge crush on Luka, but just like Marinette, I couldn't tell him how I felt. As we walked to the local restaurant, we'd all hang out on Friday night to listen to Luka's band, I shook my head with a sigh.
"How did you finally tell Adrian how you felt? Like I suppose at least I can talk to Luka like a normal human being." I chuckled and Marinette smiled, looking up at the sky.
"Let's just say... It's all thanks to Cat Noir and Ladybug." Ah Ladybug and Cat Noir, two new superheroes here in Paris. They started showing up around the beginning of High school and crime was beginning to finally go down.
"Well geez, think they'll help me?" I half-heartedly joked before I looked up to see Luka waiting outside. When his eyes met mine, his smile grew as he waved and I blushed crimson red.
"I don't think you'll need help. I swear he likes you, girl." Marinette whispered, and I shook my head.
"Him? Like someone like me?" I scoffed before going quiet as we stood in front of Luka.
"Hey glad you could make it. I was beginning to worry you weren't going to show." Luka said, and I chucked softly.
"Miss you perform? It's the best part of my Fridays."
"She just couldn't decide what to wear." Marinette nudged my shoulder, and I rubbed the back of my head, embarrassed before she left to find Adrian.
"Well, I think you look nice in anything you wear," Luka said, holding his arm out like a gentleman. I smiled and carefully wrapped my arm around his.
~
As the band finished their performance, I headed outside with a sigh as I looked up at the sky, seeing the beautiful sunset.
"Hey old man!" I looked around and saw some punks messing with an elderly man and I ground my teeth together. I stormed over, grabbing the cane as I narrowed my eyes at the two.
"I can't believe boys your age have nothing better to do than pick on someone. Get lost." I lifted my head up, watching the kids run away before helping the elderly man up.
"I'm sorry about them, such a shame." I sighed, bowing to him in respect as he shifted his hat with a smile.
"Don't worry about it, at least there are still good people left in the city." He chuckled before eying me, "You have a sharp tongue, but know when to use it. It's quite refreshing." Unsure if that was supposed to be a compliment, I simply hummed thanks before seeing Luka walk outside and look around until he saw me.
"Have a nice night Sir." I waved goodbye before heading back over to Luka.
~
"Holy Shit." I gawked at Ladybug, who had not only came crashing through my bedroom window but transformed back into my best friend Marinette. As she explained everything to me, memories flooded back to the night a few weeks ago when I helped the elderly man. So a guardian over these...things?
I stared at the little black box in my hands before looking at Marinette. I opened it slowly, seeing the bright light before it faded and a small lizard-looking creature appeared. My eyes widened, and I looked at the necklace with a charm of a lizard.
"Hello Elizabeth, my name is Bali. I'm now your kwami." The lizard- Bali said, and I opened my mouth, about to freak out.
"Breathe Elizabeth, it's alright." I nodded and a few breathing exercises later, Bali told me everything I needed to know to take care of a kwami, while Marinette caught me up to speed. So because I had a pure heart, the Guardian thought I should become a superhero?
"I know it's a lot to take in, but I promise when he knows, he knows," Marinette said, and I looked at Bali. I would be given the power of 'Dream Venom', putting a person into a deep sleep, and show them their best dreams.
"Not that I will...but if I turned evil?" I asked out loud, seeing the grim faces. Nightmares. "Gotcha, don't worry Marinette. You can count on me."
"Whenever you're ready Elizabeth, just say 'Bali, Scales out.'"
