dream looks up across the table towards his mom, noticing she is wearing the earrings he'd got her. he clears his throat to get her attention.
she looks up at him expectantly.
"is it okay if we head over to george's house now?" he asks, feeling guilty for having to leave so soon after they'd all finished eating, but also being hyper-aware of the time on the clock, and the fact they were meant to meet at george's a few minutes ago now.
"yeah sure," she agrees easily, getting up and beginning to stack up plates. "i was hoping you'd leave soon anyway so i could spend some alone time lola," she says, tone playful and light-hearted, as she reaches out to squeeze the ravenette woman's shoulder.
dream smiles, feeling much better: his mom always knows the right thing to say.
"just give me a moment to pack some dinner for george's parents," she says, taking some of the half-empty dishes and leaving out to the kitchen. lola gets up to follow after her, taking some of the other leftover food.
"do you want to come round, cara?" george offers, leaning forward to look at the girl on the other end of the table.
"oh, no thanks," she politely declines.
"puffy can't because she's going to see her boyfriend," sapnap says, voice unreasonably pretty.
cara doesn't bicker back, rather just rolling her eyes at her younger brother and ignoring the comment. "what are you guys doing anyway?"
"just hanging out," george shrugs, "our other friends are meeting us at mine too."
"oh what, punz, dream's friend, and punz's man?" she guesses.
"punz's man?" george questions with a laugh.
"yeah," she confirms simply. "the tall one with the curtains from the café?"
"yeah, i know who you mean," george giggles. "he isn't punz's man though."
"oh, nevermind then," she dismisses, shrugging, "i thought they were together."
"why-"
"here you are georgie," holly says as she makes her way back into the room, holding up two plates of christmas dinner, covered in saran wrap. "i'm not sure if you're heating it or they are but a couple minutes in the microwave will be perfect, and these plates can be microwaved," she tells him.
he stands up to take them off of the older women, the other two boys also getting up as they prepare to leave.
"thanks so much," he smiles appreciatively.
"no problem," the brunette grins. "i think we're going to call when they get home but just in case we don't, tell them i say merry christmas."
"i will," george nods.
"alright, now you boys need to go," sapnap's mom says, waving to usher them out, "you don't want to be late."
