Hey guys, I’m back. I also would like to inform you that I’ve deleted 2 chapters on this book but don’t you worry because I inserted some scenes on other chapters. I also did minimal revisions and deleted some scenes which I think are no longer necessary. You can scan back to review since it’s been a year when I’ve last updated this story. Anyways, I do hope you’ll enjoy reading this new chapter. =)

VIII. Century Old or Burning hot?

Brianna’s getting ready for the party. It’s been hours of trying to compose herself to confidently face everyone outside. Combing her hair slowly, she faced her reflection in the mirror. She had changed. Staying ten years in the palace changes everything about her. Sometimes, she wonders if the child that Adeline left to Veronica years ago still exists. She had not yet convinced herself that she’s worth the trust of the royal couple.

Here she is, looking like a real-born princess but felt really useless and empty inside. She swallowed hardly. There’s no room for self pity right now because she can’t mess with her done make-up.

“Need some help?” asks a masculine voice.

Brianna was startled and drops her comb unintentionally. She saw the reflection from her mirror which makes her sneer. It’s Alden.

“Were you not taught to knock first before entering?” she said snobbishly.”You’re not even allowed in here.”

Alden’s signature twisted smile appeared on his face. “Relax. I won’t bite. I was sent to pick you up, my Lady.” He teased and purposely bowed very low, gesturing his right hand outwards for Brianna to reach.

‘Crap!’ she thought and stands. She didn’t bother entertaining Alden’s prank instead walks with eyes straight on the door. But before she could even take few steps, Alden is already opening the door for her. Damn vampire speed!

“I didn’t even say YES to your invitation to be my escort.” she said while Alden crossed her arms to his. In fairness, this vampire can really dress clean. The tux looks really well on him.

Standing side by side with Alden, she silently observed him. Hmmm. He’s tall like a real Guardian. He indeed has compelling eyes. His eyelashes were long and his nose is unusually aquiline like that of a girl. He smelled good, too. Brianna could have built a crush on him if she just met him earlier on her teenage years.

“Are you done examining?” Alden asks, half-smiling.

“What?” she said innocently.

She even heard him tsked.

“You’re staring at me.” he teased. “Are you having a crush on me now?”

“You still have to go through a lot of things to win my admiration, Mister.” she denied which Alden only shrugs.

‘Whatever!’ she heard him said in his thoughts.

They reached the stairs leading to the ball room. A soldier is standing on top waiting to announce her presence. ‘Oh!’ She almost forgot that it’s her pre-birthday celebration.

“I’m warning you. You have a lot of guests tonight. Are you ready?” he asked.

“Always am.” She responded with quite conviction.

Alden leads her and as if on cue, she heard the sound of trumpets to silence the crowd and signal her entrance. When she reached the top of the stairs, she was awed by her audience. Alden was being humble when he described that she has ‘a lot of guests’ because from what she’s seeing, she has a battalion of them tonight. It’s her party but she’ll bet she didn’t even know a quarter of these people.
