Mark's POV

I ushered Yami outside and locked the door behind us, then jogged over to the car. I opened the door and slid inside, then shut the door. I grinned at Yami and yelled, "Roadtrip!", cranking up the car as I did. Yami and I chatted as I drove up to the hills where I know the meteor shower would be most beautiful. It was a good ways out, and it took us nearly three hours to get there! Since the hills were surrounded by woods, we were going to have to hike along a trail for an hour or so. Thankfully, I knew the trail like the back of my hand, so we wouldn't get lost! I parked outside the woods and hopped out of the car, feeling a familiar mix of nervousness and excitement course through my veins. I got the picnic basket out of the back while Yami got out, and he jumped when I slammed the trunk shut.

"Mawk, I don't see any hills!" Yami pointed out, looking around nervously. I smirked over at him and explained, "Don't worry, we only have to hike for an hour through the woods to get to the top of the hills!" "What?!?" Yami shrieked, running over to me. I laughed at his scared expression and teased, "Aw, don't worry Yamibaby! Big, strong Markimoo is here to hold you and keep you safe from the monsters!" Yami blushed and I continued, "Besides, the squirrels are sworn to protect me, seeing as I'm the KING OF THE SQUIRRELS!" I yelled the last part, making Yami giggle adorably. "Wait, will the squirrels protect me too?" Yami asked, pretending to be scared. I scratched my scruff and said, "Hmm, maybe! They might protect you, but who knows? They only recognize me as King, and you are but a peasant to them."

Yami frowned and exclaimed, "I'm no peasant! If you're the King, then I'm the Duke!" I laughed at Yami's "serious" face, and he started laughing too. We finally calmed down and I said, "Well, we better get moving before we're stuck in the woods at night!" Yami paled slightly at that and nodded quickly, then followed me to the woods. He stayed really quiet while we walked through the woods, and it kinda worried me. What if he was thinking about Jess? I could always tell when he thought about her, because he'd get all quiet and upset. Come on Mark think of something funny to say or do to cheer him up! "Hey Yami, do you wanna know how I found this trail?" I asked, successfully getting his attention. "Sure Mawk!" Yami exclaimed, kinda spooking me since he was right behind me. I smiled and began, "Well, back when I first moved to L.A., I was really stressed because it was such a big change for me. I didn't really like how it was always loud and crowded in the city, so one day I just drove. Well, I drove for nearly three hours until I got to this place."

I stopped for a moment to help Yami over a large fallen tree, then continued, "It was beautiful, nothing but the woods and the sound of nature. I was able to feel all of my stress melt away, and it decided to come back one day to explore the woods. It was nearly a month before I was able to come back, but I was prepared this time. I had brought along a flashlight, water, and and some food. At first, I only explored a little bit each time I visited, but it wasn't too long before I was able to walk through the whole woods without getting lost. Eventually, I found the trail that led me up to the top of the hills. On a clear night, I swear the whole cosmos is spread out before me!" "Wow!" Yami exclaimed softly as we neared the end of the trail.

We were finally able to see the sky again, and it was magnificent. The setting sun painted the sky shades of pink, purple, blue, and orange. Yami was staring at it with eyes full of awe and wonder, and I couldn't help but stare at him. I had seen the sunset here plenty of times, but I had never seen Yami look quite this enchanting before. His eyes were lit up like never before, and he seemed lost in the moment. "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." Yami finally whispered, voice shaky. I didn't think and I said, "I'm looking at something more beautiful than any old sunset could ever be." Yami looked up at me confusedly then blushed when he noticed I was staring at him. Ah crap, I said that out loud didn't I? Well, there went the plan!

Yami's POV

It was amazing. Never before had I seen a sunset this beautiful, and it was all because of Mark. I finally found my voice and I whispered, "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." I was surprised when Mark replied, "I'm looking at something more beautiful than any old sunset could ever be." I looked up at Mark confusedly, then felt my face heat up when I realized he was staring at me. Mark seemed just as surprised as I did, and he mumbled, "I said that out loud didn't I?" "Y-yeah Mawk, you kinda did." I murmured, smiling softly. "Well shit, there went the plan!" Mark swore, running his hand through his hair exasperatedly. I giggled at him and asked, "Plan? You had a plan?" Mark froze again and stammered, "W-well sorta, I mean, well, yeah." I looked up at Mark and stared into rich brown eyes that shone with the same love that shone in my own eyes.

"Well, you might have ruined the plan, but it turned out well at least!" I said timidly, blushing more when I felt Mark stare at me. "Wait, you mean you like me too?" Mark asked, voice filled with hope. "No Mawk, I don't like you. I love you!" I said, glancing away for a moment. When I looked back up at Mark, he was much closer than before, his lips a few inches from mine. He smiled and confessed, "Good, because I love you too Yami." I felt my eyes widen when he closed the short distance between us, connecting out lips in a sweet and tender kiss.
