Eugene and Chloe headed back to the academy as it came time for lunch. Chloe started thinking about what Eugene had said about being a queen; she never had to stress about caring for other people because she had a powerful father. So, in the spirit of being a -future- queen, she made the decision to find out what her people were thinking about.
"Eugene, I'm afraid I will not be able to join you for lunch. I'm sorry, please excuse me."
Eugene nodded in confusion and watched as Chloe left him.
Chloe walked in a random direction. When she noticed that there were no more students around, she turned invisible and headed back to the quad, forgoing lunch.
She hovered around the first table she saw, listening to what they were talking about. She did this for every table and friend group. Most of what they were saying was about themselves, so, like any other person, Chloe thought that the outcasts were being self-centered. But all of this went out the window when she turned to face a wall with Xavier Thorpe standing in front of it, a paint brush in his hand, watching his roommate, Rowan, come out of the hallway that leads to the Nightshades' secret hideout.
Chloe walked up closer to Xavier and stood next to him, watching his face go from confused to focused, his pulled back hair gave a perfect view, as he shook his head and turned back to the mural. Chloe felt like she was falling into his eyes. She lost her balance and almost fell, but she caught herself on the wall which, unfortunately, was Xavier's mural. The wet paint felt sticky on her hand as she pulled her hand from the wall, turning it to herself to look at it, forgetting about the artist standing next to her.
Xavier was finishing the background to his raven mural, when the sound of wet paint squelching next to him caught his attention. He eyed as a dark blue paint-covered hand-print rose from his mural. He chuckled as the print turned, then tensed, the owner tensing with it. Then, the print's owner ran off, disappearing behind a corner.
Chloe exhaled as she became visible again. She panicked when she realized that if anyone saw the paint on her hand they would be able to connect the dots, especially Xavier. She couldn't wipe it on her black dress, the paint would dry and stain. Chloe just decided on going back to her room and hoping that no one saw, keeping a straight expression on her face to not attract attention. She opted to stay in her dorm, to criticize herself, for the rest of the day, which she had to stop doing because her snack stash was getting low.
The next day was a gloomy one.
