chapter four

I could feel my phone vibrating next to me as I opened my eyes to see myself in a random room I didn't remember. I quickly sat up to see ashtray asleep in his bed and my head was throbbing in pain. I grabbed my phone and saw that Maddy had texted me multiple times. 

Mads :)

- Kenz 

- You coming to school?

- Where are you girl! 

Fuck. I'd completely forgotten about school and it was already 10am. I replied to her saying i'd be there tomorrow because I was way too hungover to go now. I slowly pulled the blanket off my body and stood up from the couch, trying my hardest not to wake up ashtray because my headache was big enough without him talking. I slowly tiptoed to his door and opened it but was stopped by him yawning. 

"Where the fuck you going?" 

I sighed and turned back around to face him, "just to get water." 

"Well shut up," he snapped, rolling back over. I quickly walked out of his room and shut the door behind me. I walked down the stairs to see Fez sitting on the couch counting money. 

"Morning kid," he smiled. 

I smiled back at him, "Morning fez. Thanks for letting me stay." 

"Of course, anytime. How hungover are you?" 

"Not horrible but do you have some Advil for the headache?" I asked. 

He nodded and reached over to a packet of advil before chucking it to me, "there's some eggs on the stove, should still be warm," he said. 

"Thanks," I replied before grabbing a glass of water and a plate of eggs and joining fez on the couch. 

"Was ash being nice last night?" fez asked. 

"Don't remember. He's in a mood this morning though." 

Fez let out a soft chuckle, "He's always in a mood." 

"Can you stop talking about me," Ash snapped, walking down the stairs in nothing but a pair of sweat pants. I have to say, this boy has one of the best body's I've seen in a 15 year old. I tried my hardest to pull my eyes away but it was impossible. His abs were staring at me. 

"Kenz?" Fez asked. 

I snapped back into reality but luckily ashtray had moved and I'd been staring at the wall, "sorry, in a stare. What was that?" 

"Are you right to stay here with ash for a bit? I won't be long but I just got an emergency call. I can drive you home after?" 

"Yeah that's fine. Thanks Fez," I replied, watching him grab his keys and hurry out of the house. 

I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through Instagram and Ash came and sat on the other couch in the living area. This was going to be awkward. 

"Where'd fez go?" He asked, keeping his eyes on the tv. 

"I don't know. He said there was an emergency," I shrugged, even though he couldn't see me.

When Fez got home, Faye came in behind him and he explained that she was staying at theirs for a bit because she did something to the motel manager? I didn't understand but it's not my problem. On the other hand, Ash went into a big mood, like bigger than his normal mood and isn't talking to Fez anymore. We were now all at the shop and Fez promised he'd take me home after they finished up. Rue had a meeting and was hanging with some guy named elliot so I wasn't in a rush to get home. 

It was getting dark and I was sitting on the counter with fez whilst ash stayed salty in his little man cave and Faye stood in the corner of the shop. There wasn't many customers tonight but I don't know what a normal day is like for them.

"Do you know who elliot is?" I asked Fez, still trying to figure out who he was. 

"Isn't that a chic at your school?" 

"Nevermind," I chuckled. 

Fez looked up towards the door of the shop, "Lexi Howard." I turned to look in the direction and saw Lexi walking towards us. 

"Hi Fez. Kenz?" She said shocked. 

"Lex hey," I smiled, jumping down from the counter to give her a hug. Lexi and I weren't super close but when I stayed the night at Cassie's we'd always talk. She was probably one of the nicest girls at school. 

"You two know each other?" Fez asked. 

"Yeah, Lex and I have known each other for a while now." 

"Oh shit. Are ash and I the only people in east highland that didn't know you?" he smiled. 

I shrugged and winked at him, "I'm going to get a drink." I could feel the tension between them so I decided to give them some space. I went over to a fridge and grabbed a random beer whilst I watched the two interact. I could kind of hear what they were saying and Fez was being so awkward, it was so cute. 

"Good evening," A man spoke from the shop door. I turned to see Cal Jacobs standing there with both hands in his pockets. After what Fez did to Nate last night, I knew this wouldn't be good. 

"Sup man," Fez said as Cal went to walk around the shop. Fez turned to me and nodded his head towards ash. I smoothly opened the fridge door and popped into the back room where ash was. 

"Why the fuck you in here," he groaned. 

I held my finger to my lips to tell him to be quiet, "I think Fez wants you to be prepared." 

Ash looked at me weirdly before looking through the fridge door where you could see a worried Lex and Fez and Cal walking around the store. He grabbed gum and chips and then walked up to fez with one hand still in his pocket, it looked like he was holding a gun. I turned to ash who was already rushing to grab a cereal box and pulled out a glock. He clicked off the safety and carefully watched Cal's every move. 

Cal slowly brought out his hand which revealed only and $20 note. I let out a sigh of relief as I watched him leave the store and go back to his car.
