It was finally the afternoon and the sun was now shining and me and Wednesday were making our way over to set up for the ceremony.

Wednesday decided to show her feelings for Crackstone by having thing cover the statue in gasoline which will be set a light during our performance. I think it's poetic don't you, Crackstone who burned multiple outcasts being burned himself.

Me and Wednesday are sat to the side of the gazebo full of Jericho high school marching band students as the Mayor begins his speech.

"So together as one, our community and our friends at Nevermore Academy, we've built a monument to celebrate his memory, now may the spirit of Joseph Crackstone be memorialised for eternity" The mayor finishes with a grin as we start playing "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac.

"It's almost time" I say with a grin looking over at Wednesday who signals to thing to start the fire.

Suddenly the statue explodes in flames as the crowd screams and starts running away from the flames as me and Wednesday start to play an intense arrangement of Vivaldi's "winter" as we watch the chaos around us with a smirk.

Through the crowd I make eye contact with Headmistress Weems who is trying to search for the cause of the fire as I bow towards her before grinning as Wednesday smirks slightly.

As you can imagine me and Wednesday were immediately taken to Headmistress Weems office as soon as we arrived back at the academy.

"That was a disaster, the mayor is furious, I've lost count of the angry phone calls, emails and people in the town, alumni and parents, they want answers and so do I" Weems shouts as we sit their calmly

"I would lead the inquisition but I left my thumbscrews and rack at home" Wednesday says bluntly as I try not to laugh.

"You two are already on thin ice" Weem hisses back

"Look as much as you want, you'll find no evidence that points towards us being the cause of the fire, after all our hands are clean" I reply with a smirk

"I swear in my late scorpions soul that my hands are clean" Wednesday adds backing up my statement

"I may not have hard evidence, but I see you, you're a trouble magnet" Weems says

"If trouble means standing up to lies, decades of discrimination, centuries of treating outcasts like second-class citizens or worse" Wednesday says standing up and walking over to where Weems was standing by the fire place as I decide to get up and have a look at all the cool artefacts around the room.

"What are you talking about?, and Athena please don't touch that" Weems says with a sigh as I immediately retract my hands and place them by my side.

"Jericho, why does this town have an Outreach day?, Don't you know it's real history with outcasts? The actual story of Joseph Crackstone?" Wednesday questions

"I do" Weems replies "to an extent"

"Then why be complicit in its cover up, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" Wednesday says

"That's where we differ, where you see doom, I see opportunity, maybe this is a chance to rewrite the wrongs and start a new chapter in the normie-outcast relationship" Weems says optimistically

"Tell me what has changed since then?, outcasts are still hated, except now they hide their hate behind pleasantries and faux smiles" I argue back

"If you are unwilling to fight for the truth..." Wednesday starts

"You don't think I want the truth?" Weems snaps back " Of course I do, but the world isn't always black and white, there are shades of grey"

"Maybe for you, but it's either they write our story or we do, you can't have it both ways" Wednesday says

"You're both exhausting" Weems says with a sigh

"I know" Wednesday says whilst I say " Thank you, I do try"

"Goodnight you two" Weems says dismissing us as we walk out she speaks up again.

"You should know I don't tire so easily" Weems says with a smirk causing me to smirk back as Wednesday walks out without another word.

As Enid is getting ready for her date with Ajax with Wednesdays ever helpful comments, I decided to call my father to see how he is doing and update him on my stay here.

INCOMING CALL...

"Hello, my darling Angel,
how have you been?"

"I'm good father, in fact, I'm even better than good, this school is a lot more interesting
than I thought"

"Oh, pray tell?"

" Oh you know, attempted murder, a monster that's killing people, a boy seemingly dying and then being alive the next day. I never thought going here would lead to such a thrilling investigation"

"Sounds like you are having a wonderful time Angel, but the main question is, have you made any friends?"

"I would like to think so yes, you should meet Wednesday I think you two would get along greatly"

"That's good to hear, well darling I must get going as I'm currently in the middle of a case and Decker is trying to leave me behind like normal so I'll catch up with you later. Remember no boys and if you need help burying a body you know who to call.

"Good bye Father, Love you,
Try not to annoy Chloe too much"

"I love you too my Angel,
and well it can't be helped"

CALL ENDED...

As I was falling asleep that night my thoughts drifted back to the information gathered that day, the fact that the monster is a human being the main thing that stood out. However before my mind could dwell too much on those thoughts, it began playing my interactions with Xavier in the coffee shop causing me to smile subconsciously.

'Pull yourself together Thena, he's just a boy, some crush you have and you don't have time for crushes, the only reason you stayed is because of your interest in finding out who the monster is... nothing else...

...not because of anyone in particular
...right?
