chapter 5

Silence. It's not an awkward silence, but a comforting one. Just knowing that we have each other for the moment is a greater comfort than I could ask for. Considering I just seen one of my classmates get gutted, I was surprisingly calm. Rowan gets out his key and unlocks the door.

"Sorry if it's messy, I didn't expect anyone to be in here tonight." He says embarrassed

"It's okay, I don't mind." I reply looking around in the room. I gently sit on his bed, still looking at stuff. The piles of book on his bed amaze me. Wow he really is a nerd.. i think to myself.

"Are you okay?" He puts his hand on my knee and looks at me. Our eyes meet and while I'm looking at him I realize how everything about him is just so perfect..

"I- uh yeah, I'm okay." I say snapping out of my trance.

"I'm sorry you had to see that I should've never gotten you involved in anything. Hell that could've been you. I'm sorry, I really am." He apologizes, he looks worried as if I'll never forgive him.

"You don't need to apologize. Your okay and I'm okay and that all that matters." I try to reassure him

"You don't have to keep hanging around me if you don't want to. I honestly don't know why your even here with me now. No one's ever had any interest in talking to me, I don't know why you would." He looks as though he's about to cry when he gets the last sentence out.

"Rowan. Your so nice and funny. I don't know why I wouldn't want to be around you. Trust me I'm not going anywhere." I look deep into his eyes again. That's when out of nowhere he kisses me. And a few seconds later he pulls away from me, shocked at what he had just done.

"I- I gotta go I'm sorry that was probably the biggest mistake." He stands up backing away towards the door and leaves rushing down the hall

"Wait Rowan!" I shout down the hall but he just keeps walking as if he can't hear me. I sprint down the hall after him. I grab his arm, stopping him from going anywhere.

"Hey I'm not mad or weirded out by it, i promise but I just wanna take things slow for now I want to get to know you more first."

"Really?" He says astounded

"Yeah, so could we just kinda be friends first and take things slow?" I ask

"Yeah. Of course." I hug him around his neck using my tiptoes to reach and his arms squeeze tightly around my waist.

"I'm gonna head back to my room and try to get some rest. Text me if you need anything. Okay?" I tell him as I let go.

"Okay," He says sounding disappointed "goodnight love" I get butterflies from the nickname. I smile and tell him goodnight and head back to my room and put in my pajamas and slip into bed. Not long after Bianca comes in the room and heads to bed.

Go back to the woods... I jolt awake as I hear someone whisper, looking around but there's no one but Bianca who's snoring peacefully. I text Rowan to see if he's awake.

Me: hey are you up?

Rowan:  barely, is everything okay?

Me: yeah I just I keep hearing whispers at night this time they're telling me to go back to the woods.

Rowan: oh. okay meet me tomorrow before class in the quad and we'll talk about it. Alright?

Me: yeah sounds good, thank you

I put my phone down and settle myself before falling asleep again. This time I'm thinking about Rowan and what will happen between us, and that kiss, and him calling me "love" it all seems to good to be true.
