it was finally the best time of the year.

summer.

i was so happy to finally get out of school and relax for a bit with my friends, and my boyfriend. not that i didn't see them at school, but now i could see them whenever i want, and do whatever i want.

shawn had finally scraped up enough money to buy an old, second hand car from his uncles shop, so we could all get around during the summer.

the car was definitely not amazing, but it was shawns, and he worked so hard for it and i am so proud of him for commiting to buying it.

it was our 6 month anniversary. june 6th. shawn decided to suprise me with a trip to my favourite spot, watching the sunset as we had a picnic with all my favourite foods.

it was amazing. there was this little reserve/park behind my elementary school that not too many people knew about. it wasn't small, it was just tucked away behind a big building full of screaming kids.

i had found this place when i was around 12 years old. i was finishing up my last few days at my elementary school, and me and my friend jessica decided to explore a little bit around the area, seeing as though we were growing up and going to middle school soon.

we found this fence at the back of the school gardens, near the basketball court. jessica and i usually didn't spend too much time outside near the courts, as we weren't the sporty type. we usually spent our breaks inside. but we decided to go and check it out, as we hadn't been to the gardens in quite a few months, and we were probably never going to see them again.

we found this small gate made out of the same wood the fence was made out of. you could barely tell that it was a gate, but jessica found it and ushered me towards it. she was trying to convince me to go through it with her, but i was young, and scared of getting into trouble. so we decided against it.

until about a year later. i had been walking with jessica again through the neighbourhood our elementary school was, until i piped up.

"hey, we should try and find where that gate went to in the elementary school!''

we gathered the courage to jump the fence into the gardens in the school we had previously gone to a year prior. once over, we found the gate, and walked through to show the most beautiful park i had ever seen.

there were big trees everywhere. there were paved walkways and little flowing rivers. on the other side of the park, which wasn't too far away from where we were, was a hill. it wasn't a large hill, but big enough to overlook the whole neighbourhood from. it was beautiful up there.

when my parents were fighting, i would always find myself coming back to my spot on the hill. for years i did this. i even brought my big brother and he made me a little swing to hang on one of the big trees on the hill.

shawn took me to my hill, and he had already set up a little picnic rug, with some pillows to sit on, and had even set up a hammock between two of the trees. in the middle of the rug, was a small base of red roses, a teddy bear and a little box.

"happy aniversary babe. open the little gift i got you. i'm sorry it's not too much, i couldn't afford too much after i spent all my money on the car." shawn told me as he led me to sit down on the rug.

i picked up the little red box and opened the lid, and there laid a beautiful silver necklace, with the letter s, for shawn.

"if you don't like it i can take it back and get another one don't worry." shawn clarified. shawn was amazing at giving gifts, he just never gave himself enough credit; he didn't have the confidence that he could actually be good at gift giving.

"shawnie, what are you on about? this is absolutely beautiful! and the roses and the teddy? i love it! i love all of this! what did i do to deserve you?" tears swelled up in my eyes. i couldn't believe i had such an amazing person as my boyfriend. after going through all the abuse my parents put me through, i never felt like i could be loved.

but with shawn, that felt possible.

we spent the rest of the afternoon talking and eating out little snacks, and watched the sun set over the city of philadelphia. i gave shawn his gift, a bottle of cologne he said he had wanted for a while.

we ended up falling asleep for a while, my head on his chest, looking up to the stars.

i truly felt loved.
