Aaliyah

A few days later, 9:15am

This morning I was sitting at a table in my family's cafe. There were barely any customers this morning. So the cafe was a little empty. The workers cleaned and stocked what needed to be stocked and cleaned as they waited for potential customers to walk in. My mom was in the back taking care of business in her office since I had been here.

One leg crossed over the other, I tapped my freshly done nails against the wooden table as I waited. Scrolling through important emails on my MacBook to kill time. A few caught my attention that I needed to respond to right away.

"If you're going to be here drinking cappuccino's for free and what not you can at least help out on the register." My mom complained coming around from the back.

"There's literally no customers in here right now ma." I told her as I typed away on my laptop. "Plus, I'm an entrepreneurial woman now, I've upgraded from being a barista."

"Oh hush." My mom said flicking my ear a bit. "You gone be running back once you see how hard it is to keep up with those bills on that house. Do you even have any other income coming in girl?" My mom lifted a brow as she tilted her head sideways.

"How are you going to keep up with owning a house and a business with no income coming in?" She asked assuming without letting me answer.

"Ma, I've got this and plus daddy said whenever I needed anything I can call him." I stated.

I flinched as she flicked my ear again. "You're not about to stress my husband out with your money problems girl. I'm going to have to have a conversation with your father." She said folding her arms and giving me a knowingly look.

"Mom, I said I can call him if I need to but I don't because I have everything under control as of right now." I rolled my eyes not letting her see of course or I'll be getting more than my ear flicked.

"Whatever girl." She walked away as a few customers started to form a line.

My phone vibrated in a pattern next to my purse letting me know I was receiving a call.

It was Diamond's school. I scrunched up my face but answered quickly.

"Hello?" I pressed the phone to my ear.

"Hello Ms. Ross, this is Mrs. Ford at Wyanns Academy. Your niece Diamond Ross needs to be picked up immediately I'm sorry for the call but I've phoned her parents and haven't got an answer from neither."

"Okay it's no problem. I'm on my way."

After cleaning up my mess. I told my mom what was going on before we exchanged I love you and see you later to one another.

I arrived to Diamond's school in no time. It was only 10 minutes away from the cafe after all.

I walked in and headed in the direction of the office. I signed my name and let the office aids know who I was here for.

"Hello Ms. Ross." The principal greeted as she walked up with a sickly looking Diamond holding her hand.

"She's not feeling too well. She'd been throwing up every since she got here." She said as she looked down at Diamond as she slipped her hand into mine instead.
