In most other countries the word 'cheers' is most commonly used for if you are celebration something or someone. However in Britain the word cheers, even though used to celebrate, is normally used to say thank you or to thank someone. For example, 'Cheers for getting me that drink, Jeff'. Or '"Please can you pass me that cup?" *passes cup* "Cheers'".
