James, Sirius and Regulus ran out of the library, Sirius' paw dripping blood. Walburga chased them all throughout the manor, luckily they managed to stay a hallway ahead of her at all times.

Sirius was struggling to keep up with his injury, and it didn’t help that he was leaving a trail of blood, leading anyone right to him.

If only he could stop for a moment, Sirius could turn back into his human form, where he could access his wand, but in his animagus form, he was helpless. By stopping, he’d allow Walburga to catch up to him, but he’d also have the chance to heal his wounds and have a better chance to escape.

Eventually, he decided that he was just slowing his friend and brother down, and ducked into a random room, which just so happened to be a tiny broom closet. Closing the door behind him, he transformed back into his human form.

The trail of blood led directly to his exact location, which meant he only had a few seconds to prepare. He grabbed his wand from inside his boot, casting a quick charm to heal his broken foot. Walburga's footsteps stopped right in front of the door of the closet, Sirius only had a brief second to figure out what to do. He could either turn back into his animagus form -which probably won’t fit inside the closet- or he could be ready to attack with a spell and hope that she won’t kill him first.

There wasn’t a door knob on the inside of the closet, meaning he could only wait, but he didn’t wait long. The door was flung open and within a second, a wand was pointed directly at his face. Sirius was the first to shoot a spell, sending an “Expelliarmus” directly at her, but right before the spell hit her, she cast an unknown spell at him which hit him at the same time as Sirius’ spell hit her.

Sirius went flying straight back into the closet, making a shelf collapse on top of him as Walburga’s wand flew out of her hand.

Sirius was winded from the impact and felt woozy as the heavy shelf -with all things it had previously held- landed right on top of his head. He found himself unable to get up. His wand broke at the impact of the fallen shelf, so he was defenceless, but Walburga also no longer had her wand, her wand had been shot out of her hand, having been flung to the opposite end of the hall, putting a hole in the wall.

James and Regulus continued running, not having expected Sirius to stop, so they ran down the hall without him, only realizing what he had done after it was already too late. The two boys ducked into a nearby room, which James didn’t recognize, but Regulus knew it to be the billiard room.

Although they were a hallway away, they could hear curses being cast in the hall where they’d just run through, where Sirius still was.

Walburga was screeching at her disowned son, “You disgraceful child, you have brought nothing into our family but shame to our name!” She yelled. She continued to scream at the boy who couldn’t stand.

Eventually, the screaming stopped. James and Regulus stopped breathing in attempts to listen closer, but it was completely silent throughout the manor. Regulus’ wand was back in his room, he had left it on his bedside table as he departed his room to fetch his ‘good shoes’ -Which he had dropped at the top of the stairs earlier-. James took his wand out from his mom bag, twirling it in between his fingers as a result of his stress.

Walburga was unheard from after that. Even after waiting what had to have been twenty minutes or so, no extra sound was made. James and Regulus stood in complete silence and stayed put, not daring to give away their location.

They were out of breath, partially from all the running and partially from all of the hyperventilating they had been doing.

"Do you think-" James huffed.

"Most definitely," Regulus responded, without missing a beat.

"What now?" He questioned.

"We jump out the window?" Regulus offered.

"I think it's a bit soon for suicide, maybe we could come up with an alternative plan," James suggested. "You know, one where we make it out alive?"

Regulus rolled his eyes. "You have your wand, you idiot," Regulus pointed out.

"Oh, yeah, I do," James said, looking down at his wand that he was still twirling between his fingers.

"Are you able to send a patronus?" Regulus asked, with little faith in the older boy.

"Yes," James said in a questioning tone.

"Great, we make it out and you send a patronus to Dumbledore, the ministry, anyone," Regulus explained the plan.

"What about the others - shouldn't we gather them first?" James exclaimed, the thought of leaving them to most likely die didn't sit right to him.

"Would you rather send them each a patronus and give away their locations? Because if so, be my guest," Regulus spoke with a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

"Alright," James surrendered. "You have a point…" He sighed. "What do we do first?"

Regulus glanced at the window, and pondered.

"We could hop out the window, using your wand to cast a light weight charm or one to soften our landing," He offered.

He really hoped that it was all a dream, one that would very soon be over.

Regulus froze as a thought popped into his head.

"You've had your wand with you this entire time?" Regulus glared. They could have been saved

"Um, yes? Padfoot, Wormtail, Mooney and I made sure to bring our wands…" James spoke carefully. "But" He added before Regulus could say anything. "It was kind of difficult to grab my wand from my bag while being chased, so really, there's nothing I could have done," He said defensively.

"Mhm, what about when we were standing outside freezing our asses off, huh?" Regulus scolded the boy in a hushed tone as to not be heard from lingering ears.

"Mooney had his wand the entire time too!" The Gryffindor pointed out. "He's the quick thinker,"

Regulus rolled his eyes at the older boy. "So you're selling out your friend now?" Regulus, abandoning their conversation, walked towards the window and attempted to open it.

"Want some help?" James offered.

"Nope, I've got it," He replied, after another failed attempt at opening the window.
