"If you have to guess who or what you were in your past life, what would it be?"

2010

"WAKE UP."

I'm dreaming.

"Jon, come on, you little troll, wake up."

I said, I. Am. Dreaming.

Or am I?

Darkness surrounds me... and talking to myself? What's going on? I reach my hands out, but nothing seems to come through. I blink multiple times to erase the darkness, even rub them, but I see nothing. The same thing I see when I look in the mirror.

I sense something tugging at my arm. Shit! It's getting faster! Is it an earthquake?! If it is, wake up, dammit!

"Jon!" My eyes shoot open, finally seeing something. My room, but it's dark in here, and then I realize the night sky behind my window. But wait, why is my window open? And who the hell called my name?

I crane my neck around the room while calming my nerves because my heart is pounding inside my chest. My eyes land on a person sitting next to me. I wanted to scream, but their hand simply slammed my mouth shut, hushing me.

"Quiet! Geez, you wanna wake the whole house up?!" Now I'm familiar with that voice and know damn well who that is.

"Alex?!" I speak through his palm against my mouth, hearing my muffled tone.

He takes his hand back as my mind begins to place the puzzle one at a time. He's sitting on my bed, dressed in flannel pants and a white t-shirt with an animated rabbit head on it, and he's in my room at two eleven in the morning.

Wait... what's going on?

"What the hell are you doing here at this hour?" I wanted to yell instead, but I knew my walls were paper thin that Max would hear even if I whispered. "And how did you get in here?"

He points at the open window where a ladder is leaning against the frame.

"We're wasting time. Come, we have school next morning, too," he bounces off the bed, landing softly on the rug, and grips my hand, pulling us to the window. "I'll explain in the car."

"Did you say car?" By the time I ask, he's already on the other side.

He ushers me to pick up the pace. At this point, I didn't know what the hell I was thinking as I obeyed his words and climbed down. Though slowly and carefully to not make any noise to even wake Ryan up. I skip the last three steps and land on the grassy lawn. Alex's in a car, only Alex... in the car. He opened the door, and I got in.

"Whose car is this? And since when can you drive?" I buckle my seatbelt.

"My dad's, and I've learned the basics from YouTube," he sets the gear into Drive, and the car moves further from home.

I start panicking because I'm in a car with a guy who learned how to drive from fucking YouTube!

"Wait, wait, wait! Stop, you're gonna get us killed!" My nails are digging into the seat, holding on to dear life, for it may just end tonight.

"Relax, there's close to zero cars at this hour; we're safe," he seems calm, having only one hand steering the wheel.

"I'm surprised your dad allowed you to drive at this hour," I'm trying to keep myself from blabbing like a worried mom. "A fourteen-year-old driving at two in the morning!"
