Arsonist's Lullaby
"What's the deal with you and Luke?"
Mere seconds after waking up, Luke was alerted to a sharp knock to his dorm door, he lazily got out of his bed and fixed his hair to the same he had kept it for years before opening the door.
"Wed-" Luke couldn't finish greeting the girl at his door before she started speaking.
"Tell him what you saw" She demanded.
"...What?" Luke said tiredly, somehow sounding more monotone. Sheriff Galpin rounded the corner and the two looked at each other for a moment. "Sheriff"
"Hey kid" He gave a small smile, the guilt still stained on his face, it was close to the anniversary.
"...Sorry...what did you need?" Luke tried to remember, rubbing his forehead.
"Last night, you saw Rowan die" Wednesday said sternly, Luke only let out a chuckle.
"Did I?" He questioned blankly. "Because I...I saw a lot of things last night that weren't real"
"Like what?" Wednesday asked, with a seemingly genuine intrigue on her face.
"...you wouldn't believe me" Luke said as he turned his attention to the sheriff. "I don't have any worthwhile information...best of luck"
"Help me understand why you claimed to witness a murder? Was it to gain attention?" Kinbott asked Wednesday, as Luke sat off in the corner.
"Why bother telling you when you've assumed I'm already lying?" Wednesday proposed. "I know what I saw"
"Your life's had a lot of upheaval recently, both of yours have, its okay to be confused about things" Kinbott supported.
"Don't try to lure me into one of your psychological traps" Wednesday preasured.
"No one is trying to trap you" Kinbott assured. "I'm here to help you understand you emotions"
"Emotions are a gateway trait, they lead to feelings which trigger tears...I don't do tears" Wednesday said, there was an eerie silence that both Luke and Wednesday felt comfortable in.
"Tell me how your adjusting to school" Kinbott asked, the usual smile fading from her face.
"Sartre said 'Hell is other people'...he was my first crush" Wednesday said, subtly trying to change the topic.
"Part of the reason your parents sent you both to Nevermore..." Kinbott's voice faded out, what faded in was much worse.
"GO! GET OUT OF HERE!"
"I'm sorry...I love you"
"Their gone kid, I'm sorry"
"As far as we can see, it was an accident"
*CUCKOO CUCKOO*
The sound of the cuckoo clock snapped Luke out of his trance of memories and snapped him back into the room he was in.
"Look, you made it through an entire session without trying to escape" Kinbott smiled at Wednesday, the two stood up and went to exit.
