Rayla's pov

I had been summoned by callum's parents which is how I found myself in the throne room. "rayla" queen sarai spoke I knew where this was going...I had known my place here wasn't ever permanent but this was still going to hurt...."you knew when you started that this was only temporary unfortunately we no longer need your services" the king spoke up I only nodded "I understand thank you for this opportunity." I spoke what little I had brought with me had already been packed and sent home. "before we release you I have one final question" sarai spoke I looked at her "it has come to our attention that you had gotten close to callum in your time here....is there anything between you two?" the queen asked "no..." I spoke "there is nothing between us...even when we felt anything for the other... I was his guard nothing more" I spoke despite the fact that I was dating him but I'd never admit that besides we could get into trouble. "alright then thank you for everything rayla...goodbye" the queen spoke. I bowed and turned leaving I could feel callum watching me. after leaving I ran into ethari. "are you ok my dear child?" he asked "im fine ethari I knew this wasn't forever but he was my friend" I spoke "come on let's return home" he spoke.

Callum's pov

"are you ok callum?" my brother asked "yeah I'm ok" I spoke "you don't seem ok" my mom jumped in "im fine mom but if you must know I am upset that you sent my friend away" I half snapped at her "I really liked her and you sent her back" I muttered "callum you knew it wasn't forever" my step-father spoke "I know but it hurts I liked her a lot" I spoke "so amaya was right? you did have feelings for her" my mother spoke "but neither of us ever acted on it" I half lied but I wasn't about to tell my mom we had been dating for months. "so she lied?" my mother demanded "no she didn't , she said she'd never acted on what feelings she did have or that I have she didn't lie about knowing that I liked her or that she liked me she told you the truth that nothing happened she was my guard... my friend" I snapped.
