It was afternoon, and Aisha had fallen asleep after having her lunch and taking her medicine. Her back faced the entrance of the cell as she rested peacefully.
Outside, the usual guards stood at their posts, though their numbers were fewer, as some had left for lunch. The dungeon, located deep within the building, had several rooms near the entrance, designated for the guards and other purposes.
Suddenly, the door to the dungeon creaked open, slicing through the stillness. A man's shadow loomed on the stone stairs as light poured in from the open door, casting an ominous silhouette.
Mr. Mehta descended the stairs with an air of authority, as if he owned the place. In his hands, he carried large polythene bags stuffed with food and drinks.
Walking briskly towards the bodyguards, he announced, "Here, Mr. Rathore sent these for all of you. Go ahead and eat while it's still hot."
The bulky bodyguard, whom Mr. Mehta had approached, glanced at the bags and then exchanged a quick look with his fellow guards, unsure whether to trust the gesture or not.
The bulky bodyguard remained firm, his expression unyielding. "We have our orders," he replied in a straight voice.
"Take the food to room 125. Half of the bodyguards are eating lunch there."
Mr. Mehta's grip on the polythene bags tightened, and a flicker of anger crossed his face, but he quickly masked it with a fake smile.
"It's okay, you all have been standing here since morning. It's not like she will be able to run away or something," he tried to convince them.
The bodyguards were terrified of their master and knew they couldn't disobey his orders. One of the other guards, standing beside the first, spoke up, "Please try to understand, Mr. Mehta. We can't afford to offend Mr. Rathore."
Mr. Mehta let out a mocking laugh and snorted, "Look who's talking, as if you're still loyal to him. You know the truth as well as I do, so stop pretending to be loyal dogs."
The bodyguards lowered their heads in shame. They had indeed betrayed their boss. There was nothing they could do or say to Indrani, especially since she paid them ten times more than their master to keep their mouths shut.
However, what they didn't know was that the money they were receiving, was also coming from their boss's pocket. Someone like Indrani would never waste her hard-earned money on such people.
Mr. Mehta smiled inwardly as he realized something and said, "Come on, it's just a matter of a few minutes. Take this and go eat. I'll keep an eye on her in the meantime."
He forcefully shoved the bags into the bodyguard's hands. The guards exchanged glances with each other and finally nodded in agreement.
One of them asked, looking at Mr. Mehta, "Are you sure?"
