The two reached the town of Kakariko after endless days of walking across the fields. The people were welcoming, selling goods on the street, and taking care of their daily chores. It felt homely walking around the quaint village. Gorons and Hylians alike wandered about the area, socializing and laughing, having little care in the world. The streets felt alive, not as vast as Castle Town, but just as endearing and fun. Nydore however felt disgusted seeing such a mingled community.
“Oh you have to be kidding me,” Nydore groaned. “They let those freaks walk around town? They do know how violent they can be right?”
“I see them as peaceful,” Xayvion smiled. “I feel whatever they were before no longer applies nowadays. Just like my people they-”
“Yeah, yeah,” Nydore interrupted. “Where the hell is the inn around here? I need a drink!”
A group of Gorons walked by the two of them, waving “hello” as they passed on. A younger Goron stopped following the group to take a closer look at Xayvion. The little guy seemed fascinated by his appearance which made Xayvion smile. He was a stout Goron child, wide eyed and curious, giving off a huge grin. Even chuckling after Xayvion waved “hello” back at him.
“Hey lil buddy!” the father of the young Goron said as he walked up to him. “Found some new friends?”
“Nah,” the kid replied. “I just think they are pretty,” he pointed to Xayvion. “I want pretty eyes like that!”
“Oh really now?” the father chuckled. “You already have some nice eyes.”
“But they have cooler ones!”
The father belted out a hardy laugh.
“I am sorry for that,” the father chuckled. “My boy tends to speak before he thinks. You must be travelers, is there anything I can do to help?”
“We are looking for a place to rest,” Nydore said. “Preferably with actual beds. Not rocks.”
“Ah,” the Goron felt a little insulted, however brushed it off. “There is an inn ‘round here for that. They are closed right now though and should open in a few hours. The owner is currently out on errands, they are the only one who runs the place.”
“Don’t they have staff?” Nydore asked. “That seems stupid if you ask me. How can one person run an entire inn?”
“Nydore...”
“What? I have a point.”
“The village is not very big,” said the Goron; “Besides the travelers we do get ‘round here mainly come for the lil market area on their way to Castle Town.”
“We were heading that direction,” Xayvion said. “But without a cart we thought to stop and rest for a while.”
“Wise choice,” the Goron smiled. “Night can be dangerous alone in those fields.”
“Why? You don’ you have a cart?” the young Goron asked. “How come?”
“Oh...uhm,” Xayvion muttered. “You see I am not a Hylian...I am a Twili.”
“Huh?”
“Like us son, some folks don’t take kindly to their kind,” the father answered while eying Nydore. “They just like to assume things rather than get to know us.”
“Are you talking about me?” Nydore jeered. “I never thought a Goron had enough brains to make such conclusions.”
“Nydore!” Xayvion shouted. “Don’t be so rude.”
“Don’t make a scene then,” Nydore said coldly. “I’m going to look around the market, maybe you will have a better attitude when I get back.”
Nydore wandered away from the group, leaving Xayvion feeling embarrassed and miffed.
“I am so sorry,” he said to the Gorons. “He is not always so...well...he is not usually this way in public...”
“I would be more concerned about yourself, young Twili,” the Goron advised. “No one like that is worth wasting energy on.”
Before Xayvion could say anymore, the group of Gorons left. Xayvion held onto those words for the rest of the day as he and Nydore awaited for the owner to return. The market was starting to die down with everyone heading home or waiting for the inn to open like the two of them were. Xayvion was silent the whole time Nydore went through the market as they waited, which started to get on Nydore’s nerves.
“You’ve been quiet,” Nydore said to Xayvion. “What? Were those foul creatures getting onto you after I left?”
“They were not ‘foul creatures’ nor were they being rude to me at all,” Xayvion replied. “I felt awful for them after you called them such horrible names.”
“Well how I think of others is not really your concern,” Nydore stated. “You have been so bitchy with me lately man. Why are you being such a nanny?”
“I don’t feel comfortable being referred to as ‘man’.”
“So now you’re special?”
“Hylia no! I merely prefer to be...called by neutral terms.”
“Where’s the point in that? It is trivial. There is no reason, you are a guy therefore you are a ‘man’.”
“I have never fully felt like a man for a long time.”
“So you’re a woman now?”
“No! I...,” Xayvion sighed in annoyance. “I feel masculine some days but most days I feel...like neither. I feel like me, not a specific-”
“Boring,” Nydore yawned. “You are just making shit up to make me sound like an ignorant ass, aren’t you? Go on, admit it.”
“No, I just-”
“You ‘just’ what?”
“I just...,” Xayvion fell silent. “I feel things are just...”
“Look,” Nydore patted Xayvion on the shoulder. “Tonight we can talk about it. I think what we need is something to break this tension. Obviously you have a lot on your mind,” Nydore gave out a sleazy grin. “And I won’t lie,” he said softly. “I have too.”
“Nydore,” Xayvion took Nydore’s hand off their shoulder. “I would rather talk about this now-”
“Why?” Nydore said defensively. “There is no reason to keep pushing all of this. We can wait until we are alone in a room together.”
“I fail to see why we need to be alone to talk about-”
“Pri-va-cy,” Nydore spelled out. “Don’t you know how it feels to be watched by people when you just want to be alone? I hate it! I would rather wait to talk about this when we are alone. Besides I feel you haven’t been a good partner to me all day, you can at least do this one thing for me. I am not asking much.”
“I-,” Xayvion held back from shouting. “...Fine.”
Xayvion pented up his anger to avoid causing a scene. He felt he had enough but Nydore would not listen until later. As much as it would hurt him deep down he felt being honest before walking away would be the best option.
