The sun soon rose for the dawn of the next day. Xayvion did not sleep that whole night. He glanced over, frightened at Nydore who was sound asleep. Xayvion slowly had his eyes meet the door, but looked away immediately, it felt like there was no use in fleeing with anyone around to see him. Then he looked up at the window, thinking it would be better to not be seen.
He climbed out of the bed quietly enough to not wake Nydore, and grabbed his cloak on his way to the window.
When he opened it the morning air felt free and refreshing, but something deep down kept him from feeling he was allowed to leave. He hesitated but eventually climbed out of the window, slowly wandering the village as he headed for the fields. No one was up yet since it was early morning, making the cold dusty wind feel hollow against the Twili as they kept moving forward.
His thoughts were plagued with voices of doubt and anguish.
Worthless...
Weak...
Feeble...
Weak...
Powerless...
Weak.
Worthless.
Weak.
Feeble.
Weak.
Powerless.
Worthless.
WEAK--
“ENOUGH!!” Xayvion shouted at the air. “...,” Xayvion clung to his cloak. “Enough...”
Xayvion kept moving forward, stopping at a sign that said “Hot Spring” pointing to Death Mountain. He felt hesitant to keep going onward after he started to feel a strange sensation of filth surrounding his body. He glanced back at the way towards the fields, and then back at the path up to the springs in Death Mountain. He did not know how to describe it but he felt drawn to the springs more than the fields. He then headed for the springs, panicking inside more and more as he walked the path upwards.
His chest felt tight.
His legs began to grow weak.
He felt dizzy before he reached the top, nearly falling over in the middle of the path towards the hot springs.
Soon he could smell the strong smell of spring water as he kept going, which helped him calm down a little. The warm air from the springs was welcoming as he drew closer, the smell of spring water was growing even more strong and quite soothing. Eventually Xayvion was at the springs, gazing into the clean, hot, and mesmerizing water. Xayvion slowly put his foot into the vacant spring, removing his cloak from his body as he placed it on a rock nearby. He slowly submerged himself into the spring water, curling up as he sat there alone.
He held himself tightly, on the verge of tears, shaking as the world around him grew darker and darker.
Soon he just felt numb.
Alone.
But mostly bitter and angry.
“Never seen one of you ‘round ‘ere,” a voice bellowed from a ledge above the spring, causing Xayvion to no longer be deep in his thoughts. “What kind of folk are you?”
Xayvion looked up towards where the voice echoed, seeing a Goron sitting on a small ledge looking down at him. The Goron looked chipper yet quirky, their white hair harboring green streaks flowing in a long ponytail. He stared downward with deep blue eyes, curious of what Xayvion was. He wore a medal necklace with the marking of Din crested in the center. He bore markings on his arms that gave the impression that he was well versed in this world's lore. He only wore a simple cloth to cover everything while barefoot, as if he were also going to enter the spring.
“Wh-...,” Xayvion mumbled shyly. “What kind of...’folk’ am I?”
“Yeah,” the Goron smiled. “You seem otherworldly, at least in these parts. I normally see Hylians and Zora if not my fellow Goron. Color me intrigued.”
“O-Oh,” Xayvion understood. “I...I am a...,” Xavion felt anxious to say what he was, taking a deep breath, he spoke a single word. “Twili.”
“A Twili?” the Goron smiled. “Well I’ll be a Dodongo's uncle!” The Goron leaped from the ledge and jumped into the spring, making a huge splash as he landed on his feet, scaring Xayvion a little. “I only heard stories of your kind! Your people have such a rich history, well what I could find anyway, but still a rich history.”
“You...You know of my people?”
“After that one kid stopped the twilight from overtakin’ the light world, who doesn’t these days? Though I only know so much, which is frustratin’.”
“I see...,” Xayvion said shyly. “What is...what is your name?”
“Me? Oh! My bad, how rude of me! Name’s Bozik, what’s yours?”
“Xayvion.”
“Well Xayvion, welcome to Death Mountain! I see you found our hot springs to be enjoyable,” Bozik smiled. “I will say it is the only thing that kept me from travelin’ the lands longer than I have.”
“You like to travel?”
“Of course! You?”
“I love-,” the smile on Xayvion’s face quickly vanished. “I...used to love traveling.”
“Oh?” Bozik pondered. “What happened, if it is alright for me to ask?”
“I...,” Xayvion curled up more as his shoulders arched. “I never had the chance to travel alone...and I am scared to.”
“Ah,” Bozik understood. “You have been with a buddy this whole time?”
“ I would not call them my...’buddy’ anymore...,” Xayvion felt tears in his eyes. “Not after......”
“After what?”
“I would...rather not say right now...”
“...,” Bozik took a closer look at Xayvion’s body language. “Did they...hurt you?”
A shock of anxiety and fear clouded Xayvion. He felt the world shrink and the air grow thin around him. The world grew more grey and dim as he tried to breathe.
“Hey,” Bozik became concerned. “Are you okay?!”
Xayvion could not utter a single word. He began to hyperventilate as tears flowed down his cheeks.
He could not breathe, he could not see, he could not feel anything but hands surrounding his body as if they were parasites sucking the life out of him.
“HEY!!” Bozik grabbed Xayvion by his shoulders. “Breathe! Slowly.”
Xayvion slowly took in some deep breaths before he stopped shaking. His chest still felt tight, and his limbs felt weak, and the tears were not stopping as they continued to flow down his face.
“There we go,” Bozik sighed. “You are okay.”
“...,” Xayvion clung to himself even more. “No I am not,” admitted. “I haven’t been okay for months now.”
“Wanna talk ‘bout it?”
“I-,”
“XAYVION!!” a harsh voice bellowed from the ledge below the springs. “WHERE IN THE NAME OF HYLIA ARE YOU?!!”
Xayvion felt immense dread when he heard that voice. Nydore sounded close by, causing Xayvion to panic.
