Sam lightly knocked on the door then entered at the nurse in front of him finished taking his older brothers vital signs.
"You're all stable and ready to go, Mr. Winchester," the young nurse smiled. "But feel free to come by anytime to say hi." She winked as she walked past Sam, barely acknowledging him.
"Looks like it wasn't too hard for you to start making friends," Sam teased his brother.
"Never has been, Sammy. But just because it's easy doesn't mean I'm looking." He smirked.
"Ah, right, because Dee is the one for you." Sam rolled his eyes.
"I never said that, just saying that she makes it less appealing to look for someone else. By the way, where is she?" Dean pulled his leather jacket over his shoulders.
"She's pulling the car around. We're gonna drop you off then head out on a case we found earlier," Sam spoke to him.
"No need, I'm coming with."
"Yeah, no way." Sam laughed at his brother's lack of caring about his condition.
"Why not? The doctor's are letting me go," Dean pleaded.
"No, the doctor's said you were clear to leave, not go on another hunt. You got yourself nearly cut in half, Dean. The gash was too deep. I don't want you ripping out any of your stitches."
"So what, now you listen to those stiffs?" Dean said irritated.
"If you mean the professionals, then yes, I'm listening to the stiffs." Sam replied while grabbing Dean's bag for him.
"Then what, huh? You gonna try to run off and steal my girl?" Dean sarcastically asked his little brother and Sam laughed.
"So she is your girl?" He teased.
"Whatever." Dean left the room and walked away from Sam.
In the front of the hospital, I waited in the back of the Impala for the boys to come out after I had pulled her in front. A few minutes later, I watched as the boys walked out of the front doors and walked to the car, laughing and joking, as brothers did. I loved seeing them like this, so relaxed and unharmed.
Sam jumped into the driver's side as I expected Dean to join his side in the front of the cab. He had a different story. The door next to me opened and Dean's head popped in.
"Scoot over, gorgeous," He winked as I rolled my eyes and slid my body towards the other side of the car.
"Heading home?" Sam asked from the front and Dean flung his arm around me.
"You've got it, Sammy. Heading home." He smiled to the both of us as he pulled me in closer to him.
It was night fall before we reached the bunker. The boys had this thing about driving nonstop to reach their destination, whereas I wouldn't have minded staying in a motel for the night. The back seat of the Impala wasn't necessarily the most comfortable place to sleep. We walked through the front door of the front door and Sam dropped his bags.
"I'm out guys. I'm exhausted. See you both in the morning." He waved us goodnight and disappeared.
"So I guess this leaves us alone." Dean smirked at me.
"Nice try, Turbo. Doctor said no stressful activities for a week." I grinned back.
"Not you too. I thought I'd at least someone on my side." He groaned.
"We are on your side, Dean. We're trying to take care of you and make sure you don't continue to hurt yourself." I rolled my eyes.
"So you're leaving me alone tomorrow? Got some hunt to go on with my baby brother?"
"We'll be gone two days tops, Dino. I think you can handle it here alone." I teased.
"What if I don't want to be alone..." The mood of the room had changed. I turned myself back to face him as he looked at the ground. I walked up to him and place both hands on the side of his face and forced him to look at me.
"We'll be back, I promise. We aren't going anywhere." I reassured him. I didn't know much about Dean's past other than he was a hunter. That alone gave away a sad story.
"Dean?" I asked looking for a response. He nodded. "How'd you get into the life? I mean, you know my story but, I barely know yours." He stayed frozen for a moment then nodded again.
" Let's go lay down, it isn't a short story." He said as he began to walk towards his room. I left the things I was trying to put away on the counter and followed him.
I reached the edge of his door and leaned against its frame. He stood in front of me, back towards me, as he took his dirty shirt off. He turned slightly to the side and I could see a small part of the stitches that would surely leave another scar on his body.
"Go change into something comfy, darling. I'll be here when you're ready." he smiled over his shoulder.
I changed quickly and walked back into his room. He had managed to get himself a beer in the amount of time that I was gone. He took a sip before sitting down on his bed and gesturing for me to join him and I did,
"So tell me, what happened in your life to drag you into this hell hole." I looked at him.
"It all started when Sammy was a baby..."
I woke up to an empty bed much earlier than I had wanted to wake. I climbed out of the bed and walked towards the open door. I leaned my head out and heard voices in the distance. I followed the voices that lead me to the kitchen.
"No Dean, you aren't coming." Sam said forcefully.
"Why not? If this case is as easy as you say it is then there's no way I'll get hurt again." Dean protested as I made my presence known in the room.
"Dee, will you please explain to Dean that he isn't going with us?" Sam looked to me for help.
"Sorry, handsome. It's just the two of us this time." I said apologetically. Dean rolled his eyes.
"What am I supposed to do while you're gone then?"
"I don't know, clean the house?" Sam suggested.
"Oh great. One lousy cut and I become the housewife. Well you two try to not have too much fun without me." He pouted.
"We'll try not to." I teased with Sam. Dean rolled his eyes again.
"You ready to go?" Sam turned to me and asked.
"Let me go change. My bag is still packed from the last hunt." I said and walked to grab my things.
I threw my things into the back of the Impala and turned to face Dean who had stepped in front of me.
"You know, the least you could do is leave me my car." he said snaking his arms around my waist.
"Well that would only give you a way to follow us." I smiled up at him.
"Can I at least have the keys to the Hummer in case I need to get to the store." He asked dramatically.
"Fine, but just remember, I know how many miles are on that puppy and how many it takes to get the the store." I glared.
"Fair enough. Let me know when you're at the hotel and safe." He said as I handed him my keys.
"Will do, Winchester. And you stay safe too." I smiled as he leaned in for a kiss that lasted longer than I thought it would.
"I promise I'll be back in one piece." I smiled as he opened the car door for me.
"You got that right. And Sammy, take care of her ok?" I asked and Sam nodded. Dean then shut the door and Sam backed out of the garage, Dean waving goodbye.
"You ready?" Sam asked.
"SO ready." I smiled back.
