Canada heavily sighed, staring at the time on his phone once more. It was already 8pm, and nobody had even bothered to call him.
..or visit him...

..or anything, really.

The day was July 1st, 8pm. His birthday. Canada day.
It was already dark outside, so he knew for sure that nobody was coming.

He guessed that nobody had bothered to do anything since they were all preparing for his brother's birthday, but a call would've been nice..

Canada didn't want to resent his brother for this. He really didn't. He knows that America has worked harder than anyone he knows to get to where he is today..

...but it's a little bit hard to not be at least mildly annoyed by someone who's taking all of the attention from you 24/7.
Even if it's unintentional, that hurts.

He scrolled through America's Instagram page, holding back tears as he saw all of the birthday related posts. Almost everyone was present in at least one picture, and it wasn't even America's birthday yet.

It hurts. It hurts so, so bad. Especially when you remember that this isn't just a one time thing.

This had been happening since Canada was 16. He wasn't sure why he even thought this year would be different.

He had tried to be nicer, more helpful, make his presence known.
Why did he ever think that would actually work?

Canada quickly rubbed his eyes, taking deep breaths to keep the tears away. He got up off of his couch, walking towards his room before-

*diing doongg*

"Huh..?" He said, questioningly turning around towards his door.

Was-

was somebody actually there?

*diing doongg*

"Uhm- I-I'm coming!" Running towards the door, he wondered who it could be. Definitely not anyone in his family, especially not America..

*dii-*

*diing doongg*

"Stop ringing the doorbell, I'm right here.." He quietly laughed at the person behind the door, unlocking it and pulling it open.

"Happy birthday!.." A gift box was pushed into his arms, a few balloons taped onto the sides. "Ah god- I had to carry a lot.."

Canada froze, staring down awestruck at the present in his hands.
"Uhh.. Canada?"

He quickly looked up, jumping when he saw North Korea. The other country was holding another small box, looking slightly sad. "Sorry for scaring you.. I-I can just go, if you want-

North yelped when he was pulled into a hug, the gift he had given to Canada on the floor. He was glad it wasn't fragile.

He started to get a little concerned when Canada wasn't pulling away from the hug, and his shoulder was starting to get a little wet..

"Canada? Are you okay..?"

"Y-yeah, I'm fine.. S-sorry." Canada stepped back, looking embarrassed.

"Thank you so much, North. I- um.. I really thought that everyone forgot my birthday because of America's.. again.." He whispered the last word, hoping that North didn't hear. Canada stepped aside, letting the other inside.

"Oh come on, that burger-eating freak couldn't even compare to you," North stepped inside, smiling at Canada. America would totally kill Canada if he knew that he had laughed.

"Sorry for not telling you that I was coming, by the way. I was rushing to pick this up," He gestured to the package in his hands, the lettering on the box immediately standing out.

"You- you got a cake??" Canada smiled, looking up at North. "Of course I did. What kind of birthday doesn't have a cake?"

"Usually mine, haha.."

North looked at Canada concerned as the other's eye twitched. "I use humor to cope."

"I could tell.. Where do I put the cake?"

"Oh, on the table is good!" Canada lead North to his living room. He put the cake down on the coffee table, opening the box to show Canada the decorations on it.
"I didn't really know what you'd want on it, so i just went with your flag.."

[ok just for a sec: imagine the human equivalent of that. yk how countryhumans' faces are their flags? well like. think a close up of someones face just stretched across a cake.]

"It's all good!" Canada smiled as he looked at the cake. He was still shocked that anyone actually cared about his birthday.

"What were you doing before I got here?" North questioned.

"Oh, I was about to watch this birthday themed movie. Then I got too sad, haha.."

North frowned, sitting down on the couch. "Well.. do you want to watch it now?"

"Sure!" Canada grabbed a blanket off of the arm of his couch, sitting down next to North and draping the blanket over both of them.

Picking up the remote, he flipped it in his hands before turning the movie on. It wasn't the best movie ever, but it wasn't terrible.

The movie was about halfway through when Canada felt the spot on the couch next to him dip down slightly further than it already was. He didn't have to look to know that North had gotten closer, but he didn't know why.

"Are you cold..?" Canada asked, only then feeling the other shivering. His house was usually kept cold, so it made sense that North would be hot.

"Huh..? Oh- yeah, but- I-I'm sorry, I'll just.." North tried to move away, jumping when he felt Canada's arm around his waist.

"It's okay, North.. Sorry that my house is so cold." He sat still for a few seconds before hesitantly moving closer to Canada. North pressed into the others' side, yawning quietly.

Canada lightly blushed at how close they were. He looked back at the TV screen to distract himself, holding North close.

..It was just because the other was cold.
That's it.
Canada was usually warm, so it only made sense to hug North so that he wouldn't be cold..

Soon enough Canada heard soft snoring coming from next to him. He looked over to see North asleep, head leaning against his shoulder. Smiling, he turned off the TV and decided that it was time to go to sleep. He was stuck here anyways, it's not like he could wake North.

'Best birthday ever.' He thought, slightly readjusting to be laying down with North's head on his chest.

He just hoped it wouldn't be too awkward when they woke up.
