Bruised Rejection

Chapter 23

Five minutes into the meeting, nothing much was discussed. The crowd wanted answers and explanation of what had happened. I did too. But fortunately I knew more than they did so I did have some of the answers of the questions which were on their mind. I just needed to see what explanation the Alpha had for them.

In the midst of all this, I heard someone say Rose and immediately my attention drifted to their conversation. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but just couldn't stop myself. Maybe I was a nosy bitch.

"She is such a slut, she acts all innocent and pitiful but I am pretty sure she just wants to take our luna's place. Like she can ever do that." one of the girls said.

"Last night I saw her entering Alpha's office and the other time when she was coming out of the office, she was smiling so hard like she just got rewarded or something. Who does she think she is?" The other girl replied.

I wanted to tell them not to talk bad about Rose like that but my mind was busy thinking over what I have just heard. I always felt like I was special, kind of because Rose only felt comfortable with me or so I thought. I didn't know she was on talking terms with Adrian too. I didn't know what to think of it. I mean of course she would talk to Adrian, he was alpha of the pack she was living in.

But that didn't soothe the tinge of jealousy I felt, I was not sure if it was because I was jealous of how close Rose was with my mate or how close the alpha was with my friend. I didn't know if I was jealous of rose or if I was jealous of Adrian.

I decided not to think too much and just focus on the meeting. I focused back on the podium and saw Adrian looking right back at me. My eyes widened a little but then I looked away. Even holding eye contact with him left me flustered and I didn't want him to notice the effect he had on me.

The rest of meeting went by quickly as Adrian briefed everyone with details and then warned them about their safety. As he spoke about not going out of the pack boundaries at night, he looked at me pointedly and I knew instantly that he was warning me specifically. I kind of zoned out at one point, thinking about Rose.

As the meeting ended, I made up my mind to interrogate Adrian about Rose. I knew he wouldn't answer easily but I needed to try.
I guess me avoiding him ends for now.

I saw him step down from the podium and I instantly followed him. As he was entering his office, I came towards him and was instantly hit with his scent. Help me God.

"I need to talk to you." I said

He instantly turned around and looked at me.

"I thought you were avoiding me? I need to talk to you too, I was actually about to tell someone to bring you here. Good, you came here yourself." , He smirked and that smirk had to be  the most perf- ugliest thing I have ever seen.

He opened the door to his office and signalled me to go inside first. "ladies first.", He said. I entered his office and he followed me. His looked the same as before and it smelled like him. I could imagine him sitting on his chair doing all the paperwork with a frown on his face.

"so what did you want to talk about?"
