I watched bewildered as the people marched away. Well, that didn't go to plan... we need to find a new way out. And fast, something tells me it won't end well for us.

"What do you think they want?" I asked no one in particular.

Leo shrugged. "Who knows, whatever it is, it can't be anything good. Situations like this end up with people gutted and lying in a ditch."

"Has anyone ever told you how uplifting you are?" I asked.

"You asked," he replied.

I sighed and leaned my head against the bars.

"You think this has to do with those things?" Jack asked.

Ella nodded. "Oh, definitely, this is too weird for it not to."

"They plan on feeding us to the demons," someone said.

Looking around, my eyes landed on the other three people in the cell. "What do you mean?"

The lady shoved her black hair out of her face. "That's why they're collecting us. To feed us to the demons."

I glanced at my friends. Are they talking about those things in the masks? They must be. They bleed black and can't die. It has to be.

"Those things in the masks?" Leo asked.

"Yes," she replied, sounding slightly shocked, "You've seen them?"

I nodded. "Yeah, how'd you run into them?"

"We were doing a survival class," she told us, "Woke up to this horrible screeching one night and those things tore everything apart."

"How'd you get here?" I asked.

"We and a few survivors made it out and headed here. We stayed at the hospital and woke up here."

"Hmm," I hummed, "What happened to the others?"

The lady narrowed her eyes. "How do you think we found out what they were going to do?"

Ah, that makes sense.

"Do you know why they feed people to the demons?" I asked.

The lady shrugged. "We're not sure, but if I had to guess, it's to keep themselves alive. They formed some sort of cult and now they consider us sacrifices for the 'greater good'."

"So, Doc has to be the leader, right?" Leo asked.

A man with a rust-colored beard shook his head. "No, I don't think so. We've heard them talking about a 'Master', so there might be someone above him."

Leo frowned. "Then he's just the middle man?"

"Seems like it," the lady said.

"Huh, how many of you did you say made it out?" Leo asked.

"Eight," another man with short rust-colored hair replied.

Leo paled. "How long have you been here?"

"About a week or so," the lady replied.

His eyes widened. "They do a feeding a day!?"

The three adults paled. "No!"

The lady shook her head. "No. No, they don't?"

"Then what happened to the other five people?" Leo questioned, "Unless they do batch feeding, but they don't have enough people for that.

The adults glanced at each other nervously.

Leo's eyes narrowed. "What did you do to them?"

"We didn't do anything," the bearded man replied.

I raised my eyebrow. "Really? Because you seem pretty unsettled."
