Trigger Warning! ⚠️ Blo0d, C@nn!bali$m

Once everyone was down the hill we turned towards the town. The streetlights were on I could see cars in the driveways, but it was oddly silent. I know it was late but there was nothing. I couldn't hear anything. No crickets, no humming of lights, no people, nothing. Was everyone asleep? How late was it? Would anyone wake up if we knocked on their door? Should we wait till morning before asking for help? No, they might find us. We'll just have to knock on people's doors till someone answers. "Which house do we want to try first?" I asked. "The one closest to us," Anna said, "Then we'll work our way down." "Sounds good to me," I said. I waited a few seconds to see if there were any objections before going up to the first house. Climbing the steps to the front porch, I looked through one of the windows to see if there were any lights on. Unfortunately, I didn't see any. Raising my fist, I knocked on the door and waited. I listened for any noise from inside the house, but I didn't hear anything. After a few minutes, I turned to my friends and shook my head, "No one is up." "Maybe try knocking louder," Anna suggested, "It worked for Leo." "Okay," I shrugged, raising my fist and banging on the door. We waited for a few minutes, but no one answered. "They're either very heavy sleepers or not home at all," Jack stated, "Let's try the next house." Walking back down the stairs, I started to make my way over to the next house. I knocked on the door and once again got no reply. I tried several different times knocking louder each time, but no one woke up. I turned to my friends and shook my head. "Nothing again?" Ella asked, "Seriously?" I looked down the long row of houses and sighed, this was going to take forever

"If we keep going at this rate, we'll be here all night," I said, "We need to split up. Some of us should take the houses on the right the others take the houses on the left and then start at the ends and work our way towards the middle." Leo nodded, "That will be way quicker than just one of us doing it." "You're right that will be faster," Anna agreed. "Works for me," Ella shrugged, "Whatever has me not sleeping outside." "How are we dividing it up?" Jack asked, "There's an uneven amount of people." "Since Leo's injured, he could partner up with someone," Anna suggested. "He's not pairing up with me or else I'm ditching his ass," Ella stated. Leo glared at her, "Oh don't worry I didn't plan on coming within ten feet of you." I took a deep breath; I didn't need them bickering right now. "I will take Leo," I sighed, "Ella, Anna you take the right side. Jack, Leo, and I will take the left and Leo will stay with me unless Jack wants him." "I'm good by myself," Jack said. I nodded, "Then it's settled." Anna and Ella went off to the right while Jack started making his way to the end of the street. "How come I always get stuck with you?" Leo asked as we walked across the yard to the next house. "Because you have bad luck," I joked. "If I had bad luck, I would be stuck with Ella right now," Leo scoffed. I smiled, "If that was the case, you'd be dead before you got to the first house." "True," Leo said as he knocked on the door. No one answered. We gave up after the third knock and went over to the next house. The same thing happened. After five failed attempts, we were both starting to get annoyed. "Either everyone is on vacation, ignoring us, or they're part of some weird cult and they're off doing rituals." Leo huffed. I rolled my eyes, "It's not a cult, they must be very heavy sleepers." Leo raised his eyebrows, "Really? Every single person in this town is a heavy sleeper? Why do I find that hard to believe?" I sighed, "Look there has to be a good reason for them not answering their doors. Let's just go to the next house." "You do that," he said, "I'm looking around back."

I pinched the bridge of my nose, "That's not going to do anything." "You don't know that," Leo said limping towards the back of the house. "You're not going to find anything!" I called after him. Leo didn't reply. I sighed, why does he have to be so stubborn? You know what, he'll be back in a few minutes as soon as he doesn't find anything he'll come right back. I stood there by the front door and waited. I'm not sure how much time had passed but it had to be at least a good ten minutes. Where was he? Is Leo, okay? Just as I was getting ready to go look for him, I heard a crash. My eyes widened, what was that!? "Luke!" Leo shouted, "Can you come here for a minute?" Rushing around back, I found Leo peering inside a broken window. "What did you do!?" I shouted. "I broke the window so I could get a better look," he replied not looking at me, "I think I know why no one is answering their door." "What is it?" I asked, stepping closer so that I could see what he was talking about. I peered inside the window and froze. Inside the house were the mutilated bodies of six different people. They looked as if their limbs had been torn apart by wild animals, but their chests had large stab wounds. Some were missing eyes, while others had their stomachs ripped open. The insides were stroon all over the place and the floor was painted in red. All of their tounges were missing and the bodies were twisted in unimaginable ways. The air was filled with the horrible stench of decaying flesh. It looked like something straight out of a horror movie, only this was real. Every piece of flesh, every drop of blood, and every ounce of terror. I was frozen in place; I couldn't tear my eyes away from the gruesome sight. I couldn't tell if I was breathing or not but based on the fact, I didn't pass out I probably was. I gulped this wasn't good.

Whatever those things that were chasing us are, they already got here. Leo said they weren't human, and this just confirms it. Those things are demons, and I don't know what they want with us, but it can't be good. I turned away from the window and grabbed Leo by the hand pulling him away too. "Guys!" I shouted, "I need you to come over here, right now!" I heard the sound of footsteps running in our direction, and not long after Anna, Ella and Jack appeared. "What happened!?" Jack asked, "What's going on?" I nodded my head in the direction of the window, "See for yourself." I watched as they made their way over to the broken window and waited for their reactions. They stayed still for a while; it was like time had stopped. They didn't move and they were barely even breathing, it ended as quickly as it started. Jack was the first to move, he ran away from the window only making it a few steps before vomiting what little he had in his stomach. Ella moved next turning away from the window and looking at me with sheer terror. Anna was the last to snap out of it, when she turned around her eyes were filled with tears. I went over and pulled her into a hug. I didn't say anything, I mean what do you say when you find a house full of people torn to bits? It's okay, don't worry about it, yeah right. These people were murdered! "Luke," Anna whispered, "I'm scared." "Me too," I told her, "But as long as I have you guys, I'll be fine because we'll keep each other safe, right?" Anna pulled away from the hug, looked up at me, and nodded, "Right." I smiled, "Then you have nothing to worry about." She wiped her eyes and smiled back. I looked over to where Jack was, he wasn't up-chucking anymore, but he was still hunched over. I went over to him and place my hand on his back, "You good?" Jack gave a shaky nod, "Yeah, just wasn't prepared to see that." "Sorry," I apologized, "I should have given you a heads up." "It's okay," he replied, "But next time a warning would be appreciated."

I brought Jack back over to the group and went over to Ella. "So, how are you?" I asked. "About as good as I could be after seeing a family used as a snack," she said. "Fair enough," I replied. "You?" Ella asked. "Same as you," I told her, "It seems our friends got here before us." "Yeah," she sighed, "Now I'm worried that they might still be here." I groaned, "Don't make me think about that right now, please." "I won't," she reassured me, "But you do need to make sure all of our group is mentally stable." Ella gestured over to where Leo was standing. "I thought you didn't like him," I said. "I don't," she replied, "But I don't need him to have a mental breakdown so, go fix him." I rolled my eyes, "Will do." I made my way over to where I had left Leo, he was as pale as paper and was staring off into space. "Leo," I said, "Are you okay?" He didn't reply. I put my hand on his shoulder, "Leo," I said shaking him a bit. This seemed to do the trick because he shoved me away and emptied the contents of his stomach onto the grass. "You good?" I asked. Leo looked at me horrified, "That's exactly what Steve looked like when we left him at the camp. That's what he looked like after they ate him." I sucked in a breath; Leo is not okay. What do I say? Oh gosh, I don't know what to do. Suddenly I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, I looked down and saw Leo clinging to me and at that moment one image popped up in my head, my nephew. Leo reminded me of him and how he would cling to me after having a nightmare. I'm going to make sure that Leo gets out of this safely along with all of my friends. Leo clung to me for a while before letting go, once he pulled away, I glanced up at my friends and saw they were practically falling asleep. "Do we want to sleep on the front porch for the night?" I asked. Everyone nodded and we made our way to the front of the house and lay down in various spots on the porch. In a way, I felt weird going to sleep on a front porch knowing that the family inside the house was dead but at the same time I was too exhausted to care. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.

I felt someone smack me in the face and my eyes shot open. I blinked a few times as my eyes adjusted to the morning light and then came face to face with a very frantic Leo. "What happened?" I asked concerned. Leo glanced behind me. I turned around and saw the dead people from last night alive and well and wondering what we were doing on their front porch.

Oh my gosh, what a twist. You have to wait till next week. I'm so nice, aren't I? I hope you like the chapter! Also, can you believe it? We made it to chapter 15! Anyways, hope you have a great day! Bye! 🙃
