Quickly shutting the door, I locked it. The librarian led us past the first few rows of shelves. The rows around us shifted, and soon we were standing in the middle of a lounge.
She pointed at Leo. "You follow me so I can fix the cuts."
"Why should I follow you?" he asked.
"Leo, she just saved us," I said, "Listen to her."
"Fine," he muttered.
The two disappeared into the room across from us.
Ella nodded in their direction. "Go figure out why the old lady can spell cast. Also, make sure she doesn't do anything."
I nodded and jogged after them.
I crossed into what looked like a study. There was a desk and books stacked all over the place. A map of somewhere I'd never seen before hung on the wall. Leo and the librarian were looking at the scroll and paper-covered desk for something.
"Need help?" I asked.
"Sure," the librarian replied, "I need healing crystals. I brought three."
Joining Leo, I started looking for crystals. Shuffling through papers, several minutes passed with no luck. I turned a paper over and found three light blue crystals the size of my middle finger.
I showed them to her. "Are these it?"
She snatched them from my hand. "Yes."
Pocketing two, she placed one on Leo's side and began to chant. The crystals started glowing, and the wound on Leo's side stopped bleeding and slowly knitted itself back together.
Leo stared at his side in confusion. "I wasn't expecting that."
"Uh..." I said, "Thank you so much for the help... "
The lady smiled. "Margret. Come, I'll explain what's going on."
As I went to follow her, a hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me back. "Are we seriously trusting this witch?"
I glanced back at Leo. "Witch?"
"She did magic," Leo replied, "What else could she be?"
"Fair point," I replied, "And yes. She saved us, and she just said she knows what's going on, and I for one would love an explanation."
Leo frowned. "Okay, but if she seems fishy, we leave."
I nodded. "Deal, now let's find out what's happening."
I entered the lounge, and Leo followed behind me. Once everyone had gathered, Marget stood in front of us.
She clapped her hands together. "There's a lot to explain, but first, I need to tell you who the Master is."
The master. Isn't that Brian's supposed higher up?
"They used to be a World Keeper," Margaret said.
A what?
"What's a World Keeper?" Leo asked.
"I was getting to that part," Margaret replied, "Your world isn't the only one. This Universe has hundreds scattered around, some similar, while others aren't. World Keepers keep worlds separate and functioning properly so that the worlds don't collide. If worlds collide, it can cause mass destruction that can spread to other worlds. If we discover this might happen, we are to prevent it. Does that make sense?"
I blinked a few times. Okay, so we're not the only world to exist, and if we collide with another, there's mass destruction. How lovely.
Without waiting for a reply, she continued. "A few centuries ago, we discovered two worlds that were going to collide. We sent our best operative at the time, Greer-" Margaret was interrupted by very loud coughing.
