"Why do we have to move back there?" I asked Derek while we were getting in the car. I never thought we would move back to Beacon Hills after our whole family died.
"Someone just found half of our sister's body. We gotta go back," he answered, starting the car. Half? How just half? I thought everyone died except us, I thought.
"Cora?" I asked, eager to know more about this peculiar event.
"Laura," he corrected, focusing on the road ahead.
That's nice, I thought, putting my head against the window.
---
Several hours later, we parked in front of a forest and quickly stepped out of the car.
"That's it. That's where she is," my brother said. I followed him into the forest until we were met with a half burnt down house.
"Was this ours?" I asked, looking over at Derek. He didn't answer and started walking to the front door. Our house burnt down when I was 6. I have little to no memory of it, but I do know that Derek was quick enough to take me out of the house before it burnt down.
I followed him inside, noticing a stairwell in the middle leading to the second floor. I had a vague memory of the place; I'm guessing this was our home before. I was so absorbed in trying to remember anything from my childhood that I almost didn't notice the sound of sirens not too far from the house. Police cars and faint voices were also heard.
I ran out on the porch and tried to follow all the commotion. I soon reached where all this noise came from and hid not too far from it. There were a bunch of police officers and an ambulance truck with a body covered with a white cloth. It definitely looked like half a body to me.
Laura, I thought.
I suddenly heard the voices of two guys coming closer. I approached to where their voices came from and noticed two vaguely familiar boys around my age.
"Which part of the body are we looking for exactly?" the first boy asked the other, walking beside him.
"Huh, didn't really think about that," the second boy answered. Why are they searching for my sister's body?
"What if whoever killed the body's still out there?"
"Didn't really think about that either..." the guy with the buzzcut answered truthfully.
"It's comforting to know that you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail," the other guy said, making me let out a chuckle.
The two boys stopped, looking around. I cursed myself under my breath and prepared myself to get out of my hiding spot.
"Did you hear that?" the asthmatic teen whispered to his friend.
"Yeah, it sounded like someone laughing,"
"Maybe it's-" the asthmatic started before getting caught by the sound of footsteps. He rushed behind a tree while his friend stayed in place, looking at the police officers coming his way. I listened in on their conversation; the guy with the buzzcut is seemingly the sheriff's son.
I looked over at the tree where the other guy, Scott I believe, was hiding. He didn't seem to notice me, and soon enough the sheriff and his son were gone. I heard Scott sigh and get out of his hiding place.
I started to silently walk back to my old house until I catched a smell I knew all too well. A werewolf was with us. I looked back behind me to where Scott was standing just seconds earlier only to see him gone.
Then I heard a scream.
Oh no, I thought.
I followed the smell until I stumbled upon a wolf. I didn't know a lot of people who could transform into a whole wolf like that. The creature looked at me intently, as if trying to communicate with me, before running off.
I snapped out of my daze and looked to my left to see Scott a bit farther away. I ran over to him to check if he was okay.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked as I stepped closer to him. I looked over at his hands to see them clutching a wound on his right side.
"You've been bit," I whispered. "Here. Let me help you," I took his right arm and put it over my shoulder.
"Wait, how do you know this? Who are you?" he questioned me, stopping for a second.
"It doesn't matter. We gotta go," I answered him, making him walk faster to where Derek was.
"No," he said, removing his arm from over my shoulder. "I gotta go," be finished, running the other way.
"Wait!" I tried calling out, but he was soon out of my sight. "Okay then. Don't come to me when you discover what you are for help," I whispered, giving a slight kick to the nearest tree and walking back to the house.
I found my way back and entered through the front door.
"Derek?" I said, wondering if he left or not.
"Where were you?" he rushed to me.
"I went to explore a little bit. There's another werewolf. Actually, it's an actual wolf. He bit a guy around my age. I tried bringing him back here, but he ran off," I explained quickly.
"That wolf's probably what killed Laura. We have to find him and make him pay for what he did."
"No! Let's find Laura first. It could also be hunters for all we know," I tried to reason with him.
"Hunters? Cutting her in half? I don't think so," he said while making his way outside. "You coming?" I thought for a moment, knowing very well that hunters can kill omegas by cutting them in half, but I put the thought aside, thinking maybe Derek was right.
"Yeah, sorry," I followed.
After a short moment, we found the other half of Laura's body. We took her back to the house and buried her in the back. Derek took some sort of rope and enrolled it around the makeshift tomb and put wolfsbane at the end of it.
I didn't really question it, even though I did ask myself questions. We went back into the house, and I sat on the stairs.
"Are we gonna stay here?" I asked my brother.
"For now, yes. I'll look for an actual place to live tomorrow," he answered. I nodded and decided to go out and see the town a little bit.
"I'll go see what it's like out there. I'll be back in a about an hour or so. If I'm not back by then, don't come find me. I'm probably dead," I smiled and walked out.
Going out of the forest was an easy task, it wasn't very dense, and it wasn't too big either. There were some cars going down the street in front of the forest.
I walked for a little bit until I arrived in a neighbourhood. I looked at the houses, seeing some families watching TV or going to sleep through the windows.
I suddenly catched a familiar scent. I looked around until I saw Scott in his room trying to patch up the bite. I sighed and continued walking.
I walked and walked until I reached the Beacon Hills High School. I stared at it until an idea popped in my head.
---
"I want to go to school," I stated, being sure of myself.
"What? Where does that come from?" Derek answered, looking at me weird.
"I need to check on Scott. And the other werewolves if there's any. I need to go," I explained.
"No, they can take care of themselves. It's not your problem," he said.
"Yes, it is! What if he tells everyone about us? So many things can go wrong. I need to teach him," I tried again. He sighed and pondered my words for a minute.
"Fine. I'll sign you up. It's not certain you'll make it in, you know that right?" he finally gives in.
"Yes! Yes, I know. Thank you," I quickly hugged him. I started going up the stairs, feeling an unusual rush of excitement through me.
"We're going at school first thing tomorrow!" he finished. I walked in one of the only rooms left that didn't burn to see it almost completely empty.
Oh, right, I thought. I backed up to where I could see Derek standing.
"Uh. Where do we sleep?"
---
I scrunched up my face and sighed, feeling pain in my neck, shoulders and back from sleeping on the hard floor. I walked through the hallways in search of any sign of Scott or his friend. Derek convinced the principal to sign me in the school, and there I was now. I didn't have any material yet though, but that was the least of my worries at the moment.
I finally gave up on finding them and made my way towards my first class, sitting in the back. Soon enough the bell rang, and I noticed Scott and his friend were in the same class as me.
"Okay, students, today we have 2 new students joining. Alisson Argent," he said, motioning to the pretty girl in front of the classroom, "and Olivia Hale," he now motioned my way.
"It's Liv," I started loud enough for everyone to hear. I saw Scott looking over at me, and I gave out a tight-lipped smile. I looked at the front of the class to listen to the teacher, and I heard Scott's friend whisper to Scott. I focused my hearing to hear what he was saying.
"You know her?" he asked.
"I saw her in the woods yesterday. She looked like she knew a lot about this stuff," Scott answered.
"Oh, yeah. Maybe she can help you," his friend retorqued.
"No, Stiles. Shut up now, I'm trying to listen," Scott finished.
"Okay, okay," the other guy, Stiles, said.
Stiles... so that's his name, I thought. I smiled to myself and continued listening to the class. I didn't really miss this. Going to school, I mean. But I have to do it. We never know when things can go wrong.-------------
