~ ~ ~*A high-pitched sound resounded in the being's ears, the frequency followed by brightness in his lids as they struggled to open one at a time. The sound slowly seemed to fade before it was replaced by nothing but dead silence.
Soon, the sound of birds met his ears, chirping somewhere away. Then the bubble of a creek. Then the swaying of tall grass, as the bright light became less overbearing, finally able to open his eyes to find himself laying on the cool blades. Bits of lavender swayed in the perfect weather. He blinked, unsure what to make of it all.
Where had it all come from?
An unknown length of time passed, the boy sitting contently but lost as the breeze brushed his long locks of hair above his forehead. Eventually, he looked down, then pushed himself up, the dirt on his palms cool and new to him. His eyes examined the remnants on his hand before he looked around.
Where to go....?
He had no direction, no heading, and no idea what or where he was.
As calm as this field of his seemed to be, it was lonely. With a few unsure steps forward, the small boy idled his way towards a ridge on the horizon, hoping perhaps he would find some answers. The boy wandered about this new world, following a pull to...somewhere. He was guided by mountains and streams, rivers, and creeks. He saw vast oceans that reached out to the edges of infinity, passing by birds and sheep, deer and fox until he eventually didn't find himself alone, at least not without his own kind.
Two others met him at a crossroads, two other boys holding hands as all their eyes met for the first time. They didn't say anything to one another, but instead, all followed the pull. The pull led them through more vast landscapes, from lust greens to desert sands, and humid rainforests until it cleared at the center of this mysterious place. More creatures joined them as they drew closer to the massive palace that towered over the village around it, touching the stars and planets that made up the sky. They soon saw others like them, but taller, older, as they lined the pathway as if they had been waiting for them. The blond boy looked to the other two like him, one with long, raven hair, the other dawning short white strands. He wanted to grip the raven-haired boy's hand but for some reason, he felt that wasn't permitted, and kept his hands at his sides as they approached the others, three small children in the face of a long line of elders, adults, and teens. As the trio walked to the edge of the pathway, coming to a stop as if rehearsed in unison, one of these elders stepped forward, smiling broadly.*
ELDER:
We were wondering when you three would get here!
*He beamed down at them, looking at them each in turn as though taking them in.*
You've now come to the end of your independent journeys, although-
*He eyed the two little boys holding hands with interest.*
-it seems you didn't quite do it as independently as those before you.
*He chuckled and looked beside him at a few other adults who stood by, poised and ready it seemed: an older man, short and stout with a mustache that took up most of his face and spectacles that somehow seemed too small; a tall, gaunt man with dark hair pulled into a ponytail, and an air of authority; and a younger woman, with long dark hair and sunkissed skin.*
Well, shall we let the ceremony begin?
