— The Next Day —

Hailey's POV:

I woke up the next morning and I was NOT in "my" room.

"Oh my gosh. Shh. Christopher, you'll wake them up!" I think Alissa whispered.

"Ow. Jeez, I get it you didn't have to hit me!" Chris complained.

"If you get it then shut up!!" Alissa whisper yelled at him.

"Can you guys shut up. I'm still tired as fuck." Matt said and then the grip around me tightened.

Holy shit. Okay. I don't even know why I'm freaking out. We're best friends. It's whatever. "Matt, it's probably like 11:00 get up." I complain and shove him off me as I roll off the bed and fall on the floor.

"OW!"

"That's what happens when you leave my caring embrace." Matt says as he gets up and everyone starts to get ready for the day.

Today we're helping Alissa set up her apartment because we keep forgetting to send her home. She's just too fun I guess.

"OKAY GUYS! LISTEN UP! I need the couch and chair over in the locations marked in the living room! I NEED NICK TO DO KITCHEN DUTY BECAUSE I TRUST HIM TO MAKE ME AN AWESOME SNACK CLOSET! OH! ANDDDD... Matt and Hailey can go help set up my bed. I'll help Chris with the living room because if he fucks it up he might not survive! Ok! Have fun see y'all in like an hour and I can finish the rest!" Alissa said like some construction person or some shit.

—— 20 minutes later ——

"MATT!" I screamed. He keeps reading the blueprints wrong and we keep starting over! This is the tenth time.

"SORRY! OKAY? They don't make a lot of sense." He said laughing. He thinks it's funny. I rolled my eyes.

"Give me the damn instructions you idiot." I said and snatched them from him.

While we may be best friends we do get into some arguments. Like when he's being a huge dumbass.

"How is this not even straightforward to you!? It literally says what goes where it's like building with legos! Even a five year old can do it." I yell at him and slap him over the head with one of Alissa's pillows.

"STOP FIGHTING IDIOTS!" Alissa screamed from the other room.

"DONT LISTEN TO HER ITS FUNNY AS HELL KEEP GOING!" Chris yelled from the other room.

"Anyways. Matt, take the piece of would over there. The long rectangle one and then take that piece and put them together. Repeat the process with the other three pieces that are the same." I said and he grabbed the wrong piece.

"Matt. How are you this dumb? I thought Chris was the dumb one." I said facepalming and grabbed the right piece and he finally understood what the hell we were doing.

"Listen sweetheart, I'm not the only idiot in the room." He said with an annoying smirk.

Wait. Sweetheart.

"Ehem. What?" I say awkwardly.

"I said I'm not the only idiot in the room." He said.

Maybe I was hearing things.

"Sweetheart.." he added hesitantly.

Okay now it's awkward, dang it. Uhm. Pretend you didn't hear it.

"Ayo. Lovebirds! Something you want to share with the class?" Nick says at the doorway.

"Lovebirds?" Matt and I said with odd looks facing Nick. "Yeah, uh no. Never." Matt said shaking his head violently. For some reason my heart sank a little bit but I pushed it off.

"Never." I added.

"Well, whatever you are hurry the hell up, I finished the kitchen!" He said and left towards the living room.

"Haha, that was weird right?" Matt said.

"Hm? Oh Right. Yeah totally weird."

"I mean we could never date that'd just be wrong, we've been friends for eight years and only met in person like a day ago. Plus, we're better off as friends." He shrugged.

I don't know why, but my mood just suddenly went from laughing and making fun of him to upset and miserable. I mean I did just run away from home.

I'm totally overthinking it. We'd never date. Like that'd be hilariously dumb. After all we've only ever thought of each other as friends. If we knew each other in person we'd act the same. Plus, that's just not us. Also I'd be a terrible girlfriend. I'm loud, obnoxious, boring, and way too short. Maybe I'm just letting small things get to me. I'm just off lately.

"Hailey?"

"Hm?"

"You good? You were zoning out." Matt said with a worried expression. There goes the awkwardness and back comes the adorable and caring Matthew Sturniolo that I love.

I smiled at the thought.

HOLD UP! LOVE AS A FRIEND HAILEY!

"You're doing it again." He laughed.

"Oh! Uh s-sorry." I responded quickly before we continued to finish building the bed.

"Done!" He said with a cheery smile. I smiled back as we flopped on the bed exhausted from taking longer and just lifting wood a lot.

"I really don't get why Chris didn't help me and you help Alissa. It would've been easier." Matt complained.

"Well, at least we got to hang out." I smiled.

"Yeah, but we hang out all the time." He pointed out.

"Okay yeah, I get that but it's in person now! I can see your silly laugh in front of my own eyes, and your smile, and your fluffy hair, and your eyes.." I realized I was rambling on and I sounded stupid.

"Someone likes my company a little too much." He laughed and I felt a blush spread onto my cheeks.

"No I don't. I Just think you're a good friend. Y'know? Plus, you've helped me through a lot. I'm glad I have you in my life." I said and gave him a smile. He smiled back and it was like the world stopped.

It was just me and Matt. Me and my best friend. Me and the only boy in the world that can make me smile like I've never smiled before. My best friend.

Then my phone started to ring loudly and I turned to check it, snapping us both out of whatever was happening.

"Who is it?" Matt asked.

"Holy shit." I say.

"What!?" He said.

I grabbed my phone, running out of Alissa's apartment and answering. I may hate my family, but they hadn't called me yet since I left so I'm actually curious. Maybe they actually cared about me, maybe they didn't. But, if I have the chance to find out I want to.

"Hello?" I said. "Hailey. If you were going to leave you should've left ages ago." I hear Lynn on the other end. It was my grandpa's phone. Does he even know I left? "Does Grandpa know I left, Lynn?" I asked.

"No. And he doesn't need to. He thinks you got in a car crash when you left after you screamed at him. Courtesy of me. Thanks for finally leaving my life you waste of space. Bye!" She said and hung up.

I can't believe her. Well I can. She's a huge bitch of course she'd do that. But I can't go back now. I'm stuck here. I mean it's not that bad, but he's my grandfather. He's all I have left and now I'll never see him again.

Because of her.

I threw my phone in anger as I felt tears begin to fall down my face.  "You know what!? They never cared I don't need them anymore!!!" I screamed.

"Who don't you need anymore...?"

I turned around to see Matt.
