But something was tugging at her in the back of her mind.
She tried to ignore it. She really did. Maybe it would have been better for her if she had... but that wasn't the case. Meg had to know for sure that both she and Alyx had killed them and that this nightmare was really over for good.
When Meg thought no one was looking, she crept back into the house, unaware that Ace had noticed and was now following her.
Once Meg entered the house, she immediately noticed the blood stained wooden floor where Billy's body should be. The blood seemed to smear as if Billy had dragged himself in the direction of the kitchen towards the back door.
Meg's stomach felt like it had instantly knotted itself up, but she ignored it as she made her way towards the kitchen.
Taking a steak knife from a cutting board, she noticed that the backdoor leading into the garage was not closed like it had been earlier in the ordeal.
Meg's shaky hand reached out, fully opening the door to the garage, slowly moving down the dark stairs, hearing the sounds of chatter.
"Why am I the one dragging the boys and you're just standing there?" A tired voice that Meg didn't recognize asked.
This makes Meg stop in her tracks and listen carefully, but the voice has gotten no response.
"Is it because I got them involved?"
"They were your responsibility, considering you let them do your own dirty work." Another low voice hissed.
Meg's blue eyes widened in shock, and right as she was about to let out a gasp, a hand had swiftly emerged from the shadows covering her mouth. This causes Meg to drop the knife she was holding, causing it to fall down the stairs with a loud clatter when it hits the concrete floor of the garage.
That was followed by a long and uncomfortable silence Meg took this opportunity to glance up to meet with her sister, matching the same fearful expression she was wearing.
"We need to leave now." The low voice growled.
Meg quickly ripped her sister's hand from her mouth before rushing down the stairs. With Ace right behind her.
When she heard the sound of two doors shutting, just in time to see a black van that had happened to have no license plate take off down the dirt road.
"We need to go tell the cops!" Ace cried out as she turned, rushing out of the garage towards the front of the house.
Meg didn't budge; she just stared helplessly at the van in the distance with despair. This wasn't over. Why couldn't this just be over with?
She just tried to take a deep breath, but it didn't feel like she could get any air as her heart thudded rapidly against her chest.
And then, that's when her world suddenly goes dark just before her body hits the ground with a hard thud.
…Why couldn't this be over?
