His body crumples, the bullet shot above his hip. it seems as though time slowed, and the world went silent. all but the rain. you regain your breath, taking in the previous events.

"No," your voice trembling as your feet begin to move. your feet slapping against the road, kicking up gravel from behind. tears form as the realization hits. he watches you from a distance, reaching slightly toward your form with what little strength he has left.

"Oh, how beautiful you look in the rain," he thought. a painful smile etched upon his face. you drop to your knees, skidding slightly on the wet, gravel road. you take his head into your arms. his smile wavers.

"No. no, no," you repeat, shutting your eyes tight, praying this was all a nightmare. you cradle his head into your chest as sobs rack your body. "No, please. we were supposed to make it, you were supposed to make it,"

A silent tear rolls down his cheek at your words. "y/n." another set of tears runs through you before you gain your composure. you open your eyes slowly, looking into the eyes of a man you had once planned a future with.

"Yes, h/n?" you ask quietly, watching as another tear rolls down his beautiful, beautiful face. "Please, y/n. listen to me." you sniff loudly, signaling a yes and propping him up against your body so his head rests upon your right shoulder. Anything for his warmth.

"I love you, shrimpy." recalling the nickname he gave you so long ago. his body shudders, as if trying to hold back a laugh. the rain seems to fall harder, as if the forecast knows. before you realize it, you're both laughing.

As if this is the funniest thing in the world. tears, so many tears are shared between you both. the rain pounding on your back as you hug him harder, realizing the gravel has turned to a beautiful scarlet, and the laughter dies down.

And you were met with something you've known for a while. something so normal and comforting to you. absolute, indefinite silence. all except the rain.
