It had been over a year and David was still abusing me.
His parents held a party at their house for one of Davids nieces. We had a bbq outside and it was nice to spend time with the family properly, getting to know everyone properly.
It turned dark and we all moved inside to the kitchen. David said he had a surprise for my mum.
Was he going to tell her? If he did she would hate me. I hid in the corner and tried to stay out of eye contact.
"Kay Palmer, I have loved you now since the day I met you. You complete me and I hope one day we can have our own proper family. Me, you and Laura."
My body shuddered.
"Will you do me the honour, of becoming my wife?"
Everyone gasped and shrieks were heard from the women, my mum - looking the happiest I'd seen her for a while - jumped and cried yes!
My eyes filled up with tears. I quickly wiped them and put on a smile.
"Laura! Laura come here quick, Davids going to be your stepdad! How exciting" she exclaimed.
David looked at me, smirking and rubbing the back of my head. I was about to endure a lot more pain than what I had already experienced.
A few months passed and Mum and David started planning the wedding.
"It's going to cost a lot so I'm going to pick up as many shifts as I can at work to get some more money." my mum smiled.
Great. That meant I had spend more time alone with David. Although he had a job, he was agency work so it was only every so often he would go to work.
Mum started her many night shifts and I hardly saw her over the next few weeks. I had started back at school and tried my best to make friends with new people.
There was a girl called Victoria - she liked to be called Tor for short - and we became very close. I started to spend more time with her and even got invited to sleepovers. I was so happy to finally be out the house and away from that horrible monster.
I got home after spending 3 days with Tor and David was not happy.
"Laura I don't want you spending anymore time with that girl. You don't need friends, they don't really like you they just feel sorry for you because you're so pathetic. Why would anyone want to be friends with a dirty, ugly little thing like you." He spat in my face.
Why was he saying all this? What did I ever do to deserve this.
I ran upstairs and sobbed into my pillow. I noticed a pencil sharpener on my bedside table. I smashed it and took the blade out.
I looked at my wrist and looked at the blade. I slid it across in a swift motion.
The blood poured.
