I thought I was crazy at age of 13. Yep you guessed it. That's when I first realized I was different than everyone else in my family.
13 was when I hit puberty like all other teenage girls. My mom kept looking at me, like she expected me to sprout ears or something.
Little did I know that is exactly what she was expecting.
See my family comes from a long line of werewolves. Alpha werewolves to be exact. But unlike most werewolves in our area. We did not live in a pack.
My mom and dad fell in love under unique circumstances. My mom was supposed to marry someone else, and my dad hadn't found his mate at the age of 18.
On a chance encounter my parents met right before my mom was to be married to one of the strongest wolves in her pack. Her Alpha.
My mothers parents were also very upset and disapproving. Which lead to my parents eloping.
And to make matters worse, the person my mom was supposed to marry decided to take revenge upon my parents.
Ok wait let's pause on that story before this goes to much farther.
And let me explain how I'm different.
On the first full moon of every year, my family would gather to have dinner early and then shift into their wolves.
After not turning or shifting, by the age of 14. My mom called up an old friend from her pack. Hoping that there was such a thing as a "late bloomer."
That's when we learned of the curse.
The curse place upon my mom. The curse was that the first born kid be a girl. And every offspring after that. Not given the ability to shift.
It sucked to learn golden nugget of information on the day I got my period.
From that day on I knew I was going to be forever different from my family.
For the next 6 months to a year, my mom and dad went from pack to pack. Asking any Alpha who would allow them to visit. If they knew of this type of curse. And if there was a cure. Even going as far as venturing from witch coven to coven. Hoping to find whoever made the curse, and if it could be reversed. However after finding out that the curse was because my mom married my dad, most wouldn't help us. It seems my mom's former alpha was a bit on the crazy side. And was feared by most in our area. He was known to be very cruel with little to no repercussions for his actions from the Royal council.

So the summer I turned 15 I told my parents that it wasn't worth it anymore.
It's not like my life had changed much. Instead of trying to find my soulmate like my parents had hoped. I was looking to date just a normal average boy and get on with my normal average human life.

Little did I know that my whole world was going to change a year from the day I decided that being human was good enough. And I know that seems cruel. But I kind of realize that the more I try to fight with fate, the more miserable I was. Which is really hard for a teenage girl trying to figure out how to be comfortable in her own skin.
Not to say, I didn't go through a rebellious phase. See you unlike werewolves. I don't possess the ability to heal super fast.

On summer night I went to a bonfire with some friends. And decided that I was going to get a tattoo that night. Oh, the look on my mom's face when she realized that I couldn't heal fast enough to erase the tattoo which she called "a big mistake."
We didn't pierce our ears because once you would shift. It doesn't stay in your wolf form. Not only do you rip off your clothes when you shifted. If you weren't smart enough to take the earring off first. Any piercing like an earring or a bellybutton ring. Would also tear out during the transformation.

My parents were the best though. They never shunned me for being wolfless. My mom worried I would never find a true mate.
At first before finding out about the curse. My mom would say things like you are not wolfless, just a late bloomer. You were born to two werewolves. And therefore that makes you one too. And how they had heard stories of werewolves getting their wolves as late as 15. But that was atypical for someone with an Alpha blood lineage. That usually happens to an Omega. At first I believed the story. But as time went on I knew that I was different.
Thinking back you know how every little girl with a big sister. Is envious of said sister. I wanted to be like her. Still do most days. When she got her wolf. Her beauty really shown through. Her hair got longer and thicker. Her curves came out from all the muscles she gained. She became way faster then everyone we knew. More agile. And insightful. I couldn't wait for my transformation into my true self. Oh the disappointment when it didn't happen.
My sister's wolf was beauty. All white. My mom gasped the first time she saw her shift. White wolves of any kind are rare. I also knew I would have a similar wolf.
See when I was little I had dreams of my wolf. All white with black paws. Her name was Sia. She was sitting at the edge of a river in my dream. But like in every dream, right before I got to her to pet her soft fur. She would giggle and jump into the water.
Mom use to say that was my wolf waiting to meet me. But by the time I was 15 the dreams had stopped. Now I sleep in sheer darkness. And although I miss seeing my wolf. Overtime I have felt less and less like I was meant to have a wolf altogether.
Maybe it was the curse.
Maybe it was me.
But my journey begins with a lot of strange happenings.
