Avi awoke to the smell of ham and eggs, and the sound of voices chatting away. She slowly walked out, stretching as she sat down.

"Good to see you're awake." Trixy giggled. "I made breakfast. Have some."

"Thanks trix. It smells delicious." Avi yawned, still waking up. Once everyone had finished eating, Danny and Bella stood up to leave. "Where you guys going?"

"There's a small town not far from here. We're gonna see if we can find any supplies." Danny explained.

"Just be careful you two."

"We always are, don't worry." Bella grinned slightly.

After about an hour, Avi went back up to her room and picked up her dad's old radio. She'd used this countless times the last 2 years to try and reach people.

"This is Avi Lynn. My friends and I have made refuge in a small farm just west of a small town in Illinois and we request an assisted evac. There are five of us, one of which is 11, four of which are 15 and 16. If anyone is getting this message, please respond." Static. She sighed and tried again. Still static. "This is Avi Lynn-"

"Avi. No one's coming to get us." Trixy said quietly. "You've been trying for 2 years and each time we get nothing but static. Face it. No one's-"

"Avi Lynn, this is general Lynn." Trixy stood there stunned.

"Max?! Oh thank god it is good to hear your voice big brother." She laughed in relief.

"It's good to know you're still alive. We have a safe haven just past that city you were talking about. It'll take a couple days for you to reach us, but we'll have supplies and a safe zone for you and your friends."

"Two of our people are out right now scavenging for supplies. Once they get back, we'll let them know, and we'll head your way in the morning. What about dad and mom? Are they there?"

"Dad is. Mom.. she didn't make it.." Max said sadly. "I don't wanna lose you too, so try and hurry up to get here, ok?"

"We will. I'll radio you when we start on our way." Avi laughed in celebration and threw her fists into the air. "Yes! We're getting out of here!" She cheered.

"This is incredible Avi! We have to tell Danny and Bella when they get back!"

"Let's start collecting our stuff as well as some food for on the road." Avi chuckled.

She was coming back from the stable when she saw some figures walking towards the barn. They didn't seem like zombies. They looked like...

"Raiders.."

Avi ran into the house, shutting the door and blinds.

"Raiders! Trixy, Isaac, hide! Now!" She grabbed her gun from her room and a small dagger she kept for this purpose. Raiders were dangerous. She had to make sure they didn't get to Trixy and Isaac. She readied herself, waiting for them to show up. She hid as she heard them opening the door. She'd locked the bedrooms, which contained their personal items they'd need for the trip, and had hid behind the living room couch. She took a deep breath and cocked her gun.

"Hey!" She called from behind them, her gun cocked and raised. "This area's claimed."

"And what's one little girl gonna do against three of us?" One laughed, a taller and older man with a beard growing out slightly, his strawberry blond hair covering his eyes. Avi fired a warning shot and hit one of them in the arm.

"This little girl can do a lot of damage if you provoke her." She snapped.

That tipped the scale. The man she'd responded to rushed at her, and she shot him in the leg. His friend she'd shot earlier fired a shot and she ducked behind a wall, dodging it narrowly. She took out her dagger for close combat and went into combat with the third raider, and she stabbed him in the gut, her hands and dagger red with his blood. She took out her gun again and shot two more shots, one at the guy she'd shot first, who fell to the ground, lifeless, and the second at the guy she'd shot in the leg, who tackled her to the ground. Avi dropped her gun and he fought for the dagger with her. He pinned her hands to the floor, considering he was much stronger than she was, and held her to the wall, her dagger to her neck.

"Not so tough now, are ya?" He huffed, catching his breath.

Avi was struggling in his grip, and he threw the dagger to the ground. Wrapping his hands around her neck, he lifted her into the air, her legs kicking, trying to make contact with the ground. She clawed at his arms, her nails digging into and ripping up his skin. His grip on her throat tightened, and she panicked, the lack of oxygen making her head feel like it was going to explode. Her eyes started rolling back into her head, and her attempts weakened. 7...6...5...4...3...2.. Avi fell to the ground as a gunshot rang out, the man dead and lifeless on the floor.

Avi opened her eyes to Trixy kissing her, or rather simply given her cpr, and sat up as she gasped for air.

"What happened?!"

"Thank god! We thought we lost you!" Trixy cried, throwing herself on the dazed Avi.

"We're just glad you're still alive." Danny sighed in relief beside her. "Trixy was using cpr to keep you alive."

At the thought of it, Avi began to blush excessively, her face a bright red.

"Wait, did you tell them-"

"About the message? Yep." Trixy giggled. "We should get moving."

"Good idea. Let's go." Danny grinned. He helped Avi up, and the five friends started on their way to their new home.
