A distressing call

Avi and trixy walked into breakfast the next morning, trying to act as if nothing had happened. Trixy was walking with a limp, and Avi had scratch marks from trixy's nails. Bella and Danny knew exactly what had happened, but they stayed quiet to keep Isaac's innocence.

"You two had fun last night." Danny teased as he took a sip of coffee.

"Shut up." Avi blushed and nuzzled into trixy's neck from the exhaustion.

"So are you two a thing now or?" Bella raised an eyebrow.

"I guess you could say that." Trixy giggled in response and gave Avi a kiss on the forehead.

Avi groaned and wrapped her arms around her waist. She may be a zombie, but she had her limits.

"Oh, we got word from Dr Adams. She wants to talk to you Avi." Danny said as he sat his cup down on the table.

"What? Why?"

"She didn't tell us. But it sounded important."

"I'll stop by and see what's up."

"I'm coming with you." Trixy piped up. Avi opened her mouth to object, but sighed when she saw the look on her face. There was no winning against that look.

"Fine, but be careful. I've been known to lose control during these experiments."

Trixy nodded slightly and the two walked to the lab where Dr Adams was working with the zombie Avi had contained and brought back.

"Dear Lord, that thing is riled." Trixy muttered.

"She sure is. The mutation is evolving."

"Evolving? Hold on, what do you mean evolving?" Avi asked and stepped forward towards the case.

"She's become more aggressive. More active. More aware."

"Spit it out Adams." She demanded. She could tell whatever this was, it wasn't gonna be good.

"Something in her brain is causing her to act like this. Something's talking to her and she's responding to it."

"Like a call and response?" Trixy asked as she walked up to stand by Avi.

"Precisely. I can't identify where the call is coming from, but it seems prominent."

"How prominent?"

"It's hard to say without other specimens to examine."

Trixy was about to speak up when Avi suddenly cried out and held her head.

"Avi?!"

"Avi!" Dr Adams exclaimed and rushed over to her side. "What's wrong?"

"My head, it feels like it's splitting..!" Avi groaned and crumbled to her knees.

"General Lynn!" Trixy screamed and grabbed her radio from her hip to call for help. "Danny, something's wrong with Avi..!"

Avi moaned slightly as her vision began to blur and she collapsed to the side.

"AVI!"
