I managed to get home without causing an accident, which I can only thank the lord for.

I don’t even remember the drive home. All I remember is seeing Kenzie with her arms around Dessen, and Dessen...

I yelped as I fell to the ground. The heat was burning through my chest. My eyes were watering and my breath was coming too fast, much too fast.

Then suddenly, everything went black.

~

I hear someone calling my name. Its faint... like im hearing it through water or something.

It steadily gets louder and louder.

I feel my eyes flutter open.

“What happened?” I hear myself ask, in a husky voice. I clear my throat and look around. Why am I on the floor?

I look at the person holding me, and gasp. I quickly try to push him away, of course it doesn’t work.

“I told you to leave me alone.” I said, too weak to conjure up enough anger to make it sound as I had intended it.

“Like I can actually do that.”

“Huh?”

“You’re kinda oblivious, Miranda.”

I scowl at him. “Are you done stalking, touching, and offending me?”

I see the amusement flash in his eyes. “I wasn’t stalking, and I didn’t mean to offend you.” He said as he moved closer. “As for the touching....”

My eyes get wide and I feel my cheeks flush. He gently skimmed the tips of his fingers over my cheek and down my neck. I feel my eyes close as his fingers skim over my collarbone.

I gasp as I feel his lips brush over the bare skin of my neck.

I feel his lips slowly travel down, taking the same path his fingers had only a few moments earlier.

Just as his lips traveled over my collarbone I said “Dessen.” I was surprised at how breathless my voice seemed.

I blushed as I realized how I probably sounded.

“Miranda.” He murmured. I felt his breath on my skin, and I shivered.

He’s too good for you! My eyelids fly open as I hear Kenzie’s words in my head yet again.

I push my way out of his arms. “I-I’m sorry... I-I can’t...” I look down at the floor, unable to look him in the eye.

“No, no. I’m sorry. I...... I just can’t seem to keep my hands off you.”

I look at him then. His eyes are swirling back, as I try to swallow the tightness in my throat.

“Why do you say things like that?” I mumbled.

“Because its the truth.” he said simply.

“Well stop.”

“Would you like me to lie to you?”

“Sure. Whatever. I don’t really care.”

“Now you’re the one who’s lying.”

I glare at him. “Am I?”

He stared at me for a few moments, his eyes getting darker and darker... if that’s even possible, because they were already black.

“I felt the way your heart raced when I touched you.” He took a step closer. “I saw the way you closed your eyes in... what was it? Pleasure, maybe?” He took another step, his voice getting quieter. “I felt the way you melted in my arms...” he stood in front of me now. “And I know you felt it too.” he whispered the last part in my ear, barely letting his lips brush against my skin.

I felt him step away, and before I knew it, he was gone.

I let out a frustrated growl. Why the hell was he even here in the first place?

~

The next day, as I made my way to school, I felt myself getting angrier and angrier with Dessen. Why does he just like POOF out of nowhere and then get all touchy-feely and then leave without telling my why he was even there in the first place?

As I pulled into the school parking lot, I was royally pissed.

I got out of my car, and with clenched teeth walked over to Dessen who was standing with a group of people I didn’t know. I tapped him, not to gently I might add, on the shoulder “Can I speak with you?”

He turned around and smiled. My heart stopped.

God, he was so beautiful.

A wave of doubt washed over me. Why does he like me?

FOCUS!

“I...” I swallowed. “Why were you in my house yesterday?”

He didn’t say anything, he just looked at me. “You look better. How are you feeling?”

“Im fine, stop changing the subject.”

“Im not. You just look better than usual today.” he said stepping closer and twirling a strand of my hair around his finger.

I narrowed my eyes. “What are you doing, Dessen?”

“Playing with your hair?” He said, innocently.

“No, I mean... What are you doing? Like... with....” I waved my arms between us, unable to find the right words. “.... You know.”

He grinned. “I do believe im crushing on you.”

“Right...” I trailed off as he took my hand and started dragging me towards the school. We stopped at his locker. “So when are you gonna explain things to me?”

He paused, and then continued getting his books out. “I don’t know, Miranda...”

I studied his face.

Even as his eyes met mine, I didn’t look away. For once, I think HE was actually getting lost in MY eyes.

What I lovely turn of events.

The hell with what Kenzie said, I thought to myself as I took a step forward, letting the front of my body brush against his side. He had stilled in the process of pulling out a book, so his hand was still in his locker, his elbow brushing my collarbone. I ducked under his arm, to where my back was against the lockers.

My gazed skimmed down over his chest and torso and stopped at his belt loops. I looked back up at him as I grabbed his front belt-loops and gently tugged him towards me until his body was pressed snugly against mine.

I trailed my hands up his chest until I had my hands resting on the back his neck. I gently guided his lips towards mine. I lightly brushed my lips over his and then whispered “I guess it works both ways, huh?”

He groaned as I quickly ducked back under his arm. Evading the grab he tried to make at me, I grinned and walked away whistling.
