~one week later~
(Miranda’s POV)
We pulled up to Dessen’s house and before I could even get my seatbelt off he was out of the car, walking around the hood, and opening the door for me. I smiled as I stepped out. Once the door was closed, he pressed me against it and started kissing my neck.
“Yo! Dessen!” Dessen tensed, and then stepped away from me. Three guys were walking towards us with big smiles on their faces.
“What’s good, bro? Haven’t talked to you in awhile.” I watched as his gaze flickered over to me and a shiver ran up my spine. “Well, hello there.” he murmured, only a few steps away from me.
I looked over at Dessen, and gasped. His eyes were so cold, so guarded. He was completely expressionless, and it made me nervous. I’d never seen him like this before. I felt fingertips brush my arm, and my gaze jerked back to the guy. He had brown hair, and light green eyes. One word kept flashing through my mind. DANGEROUS.
Dessen finally spoke, “Hey man, you don’t really want my leftovers do you?” I felt my heart drop. His tone of voice was so... uncaring. He spoke of me as if... as if...
He’s been playing me. I felt my heart tighten. Maybe this was why I never get close to people...
“I, uh... I think I’ll go now.” I started the side-step Mr. Green Eyes, but he stepped in front of me. He grabbed my upper arms and backed me up against the car, just as Dessen had.
“Are you sure, baby? We could have some fun...” he murmured in my ear. I literally felt my skin crawl. I gazed at Dessen with desperate eyes, but he just stood there, looking at something over my head.
“No... sorry, but I really have to go. So if you could just..” I trailed off, getting more nervous by the second as he only pressed against me more firmly.
“Tommy.” Dessen said. “She’s really not even worth the effort. We can easily find girls that are more willing...” he gestured with his hands swiftly, “to fufill our needs.”
She’s really not even worth the effort. I felt the tears burn the back of my eyes.
How dare he? I felt my blood boil. I shoved against Tommy’s chest, successfully making him take a few steps back.
“Keep your hands off of me.” I growled. I swung around to Dessen. “And YOU! How dare you use me like that! I thought you were different! I thought you cared!”
His facial expression never changed, and it just pissed me off even more.
“I cannot even believe you. You’re a fucking player, just like all the other pricks at school. Telling me you love me, and care about me... I’m usually good at knowing the difference between bullshit and the truth, but CONGRATULATIONS. You just proved that that’s obviously another thing I can’t do. Did you get what you wanted? Hmm? The satisfaction of knowing you can play just about anyone? OH WAIT! You only wanted in my pants though, didn’t you? Well guess what, Dessen?” I got right up in his face, and lowered my voice, “Go fuck yourself, ‘cause you sure as hell won’t be fucking me.” I gave him a shove for good measure before spinning on my heel and walking away.
I yanked my cellphone out of my bag.
But who am I supposed to call?
I felt the tears threatening to escape as I gently put it back into my bag. I could feel all of their eyes on me as I walked further and further down the street.
Once I was around the corner, I let the tears fall. He didn’t even come after me. I don’t know why I even expected it, even hoped. I guess I was giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I won’t be making that mistake again.
Mates. My ass. i thought to myself.
I don’t know how I fell for something so stupid.
I walked all the way back to my house, and once I climbed the stairs and closed the door behind me, I bawled my eyes out.
