(Miranda’s POV)
I groggily opened my eyes before abruptly closing them again. I groaned.
I scrubbed my hands over my face and through my hair a few times, trying to wake myself up. I looked over at my alarm clock, and wanted to throw it across the room just because of the repulsive time displayed on its screen. I groaned again. Why the hell am I waking up at such an ungodly hour?
9:35 am. Un-freaking-believable.
I sat up and stretched, hearing a few cracks as I did so. My eyes felt gritty and irritated, much like the rest of me did. With as much enthusiasm as I could muster, I swung my legs over the side of my bed, yelping as my feet touched the cold floor. I slowly trudged to my bathroom, and yet again, groaned. I looked like hell.
Though, quite honestly, hell probably looks more appealing than I do at the moment.
I turned on the shower, giving the water time to heat up, and went back to staring at myself in the mirror. All of this for one boy. Jeez, this is pathetic. I assumed that the water was hot by now so I quickly stripped and stepped under the scalding spray. I sighed as the hot water hit my shoulders, instantly relieving some of the tension. I took my sweet time in the shower, and after shampooing, conditioning, and bathing twice, I finally got out.
I walked into my room wrapped in a towel and screamed when I saw him sitting on my bed. After getting past the terror that had my heart beating wildly, I narrowed my eyes.
“What the are you doing here?” I asked, my voice hushed and hopefully sounding menacing. I thinks it pretty safe to say I didn’t pull off the menacing part. He just looked at me for a few moments before saying “I came to apologize.” Now it was my turn to stare. I let out a humorless laugh.
“Oh well thank you, Dessen. That sure as hell makes it all better.” I yanked some of the wet hair that was falling in my face back behind me ears with jerky movements. “I don’t even know why you’re bothering to say sorry, your apology isn’t worth a damn to me.” After huffing out a breath, I added “At least not anymore.”
“Just let me explain...” he trailed off when I glared at him.
“Just for the sake of seeing what kind of lies you’ll weave to get out of this, sure go ahead. Explain it to me.” I grabbed a robe and put it on over my towel. Once it was securely around me, I reached under it and yanked my towel off. “Explain why you tensed up when those guys walked up. Explain to me why you stood there and let them paw at me, humiliating me in the process. Explain to me why you played me, and reminded me why I never get close to people. Explain to me how you expect me to believe anything that comes out of your mouth.” I was slightly breathless after my outburst, and more than a little surprised when I felt tears streaming down my cheeks. “Damn you.” I whispered, wiping at the traitorous tears and looking everywhere except his face. I really didn’t need any of this right now. What did I do deserve this nonsense? I always kept to myself, never bothering anyone. I would bet every dollar in my damn wallet the God is up there laughing at me right now.
I was so lost in thought, that I hadn’t noticed Dessen standing not even a foot away from me. I took an instinctive step back. I saw something flash in his eyes but just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.
“You don’t understand Miranda....” he started, running his fingers through his hair absently.
I mental image flashed through my mind. It showed Dessen and I standing about a foot apart facing eachother. I watched as I closed the distance between us, crashing my lips to his. I ran my fingers through his hair, and let my hands fist as the back of his head. I saw his hands encircled me and hold me tightly against his chest. I had to fight a moan as I saw the Dessen in my vision, slowly slide his hands down, lower and lower and lower...
Then the image was gone.
Somewhere during the course of that ridiculous “vision”, for lack of better words, I had closed my eyes. Now, as I slowly opened them, I saw Dessen was standing even closer. I saw the spark of desire flash in his eyes, and I bit my bottom lip. He watched the movement like a hawk, before bringing his gaze back to my eyes.
Dammit, dammit! You’re supposed to be mad at him! Focus, Miranda, focus.
I tore my gaze away from his and suddenly took avid interest in my wall. I felt him move closer, but I refused to react. I was not backing down by taking a safe step back. Besides, he was just as affected as I was. His erratic heartbeat was proof of that. I felt him lean towards me and braced myself for what was to come.
“Put some clothes on.” he murmured in my ear. This had my head whipping around to face him. I almost stuttered due to out close proximity, but I managed to pull myself together.
“It’s my room. If I want to be naked then, then dammit it I’ll be naked. If you have a problem with that, then you can leave. Please, let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.” I growled.
His eyes got darker. Oh shit, I really pissed him off now. I found myself moving backwards. Who knew what he was capable of? He kept moving forward as I moved back, and I seriously wanted to scream in frustration. I knew exactly what he was doing; he was cornering me. I glanced around trying find away around him, but I knew how fast he was.
Damn, damn, damn I chanted in my head.
I felt myself back into something and I quickly realized it was the bathroom door. My eyes widened as he kept coming towards me. I almost whimpered when he slowly pressed himself against me. I felt the sparks flying between us, but I told myself I didn’t like it.
And the worst part was, I knew I was lying.
I closed my eyes, not willing to meet his penetrating stare. I felt him press tighter against me, and I tried my hardest not to shiver when his breath fanned across my face. “Look at me.” he said, running his hands up my arms and letting them settle on my biceps. I wanted to refuse, but I found myself looking into his eyes. Hi just looked at me for a few moments before speaking.
“First of all, I asked you to put clothes on because its distracting, not because I don't like knowing you're naked under that robe." I felt myself blush. "Now, about those guys from yesterday... " he continued, "they’re from my old pack. They’re bad news, Miranda. I couldn’t show them I cared about you, because they’d come after you just to get back at me. There were some hard feelings when I left the pack, and I just didn’t want to drag you into that. The situation is dangerous, and since you’re my mate, you’re now in danger. If I had showed any feelings towards you, they probably would’ve killed you right then and there.” I felt him shake with rage. “I had no choice Miranda. It was either act like an asshole, or watch you get hurt. I would’ve been powerless to stop them, because lets face it... three to one just isn’t a fair fight. Besides, they’re part of a pack which makes them stronger. I’m just a rouge.”
“So that’s why you acted that way?” I asked.
“Yes.”
“Okay, thanks for explaining. Now get out.”
