REDEMPTION.
[ chapter sixteen ]✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
THOMAS GLARES OVER AT JANSON, his jaw clenched as he tries to ignore the blood staining the man's clothes, "Why don't you just kill me?"
"Kill you?" Janson chuckles, stepping closer and halting a feet away from the stretcher that Thomas is laid across, "No, we don't wanna do that. We're gonna take special care of you. We'll keep you alive. Eve, on the other han—"
At the mention of the girl, Thomas jerks roughly towards Janson, attempting to break free from his binds, causing the man to smirk wider at the reaction.
"In return, you will give life to the rest of us," Janson says, "The ones we choose to save, anyway," He turns towards a medical table, picking up a device before facing Thomas once more, "Of course, there's not gonna be enough for everyone. Hard choices are gonna have to be made."
Thomas continues to struggle, his nostrils flaring as he listens to Janson's words. He lets out loud yells, the image of Evelyn in the same situation as him plaguing his mind.
"In time the Flare virus will burn itself out," Janson continues, ignoring Thomas' fights as he goes and stands beside Teresa, plucking a small vial from her hands, "The only question is. . . who will be the ones left standing? And thanks to you, to this," He returns to Thomas' side once more, showing him the glass chamber in his hands that holds a blue liquid, "We finally get to choose," He clicks the vial into the device, "A future of our own making."
Janson rolls up his own sleeve, revealing his forearm that's littered with blue and purple veins. Thomas' eyes widen in realisation as he shakily lifts his eyes to Janson's.
In the pitch black room opposite, Evelyn had been ripping the tape around her wrists on the sharp corners of the metal chair, eventually freeing her limbs. Silently, she made sure to creep low towards the door, attempting not to set off any motion sensor lights. She glanced across to Thomas' room, noticing him getting lectured by Janson while he writhed on the bed.
She clenched her jaw, and slowly opened the door, stepping out into the brightly lit corridor. She kept her eyes on Teresa the whole time, as she crept closer to the room. Eventually, she was able to dash behind a cabinet as Teresa turned away for a second and Janson returned to Thomas' side.
As Janson rolled up his sleeves, Evelyn kicked her leg into the back of Teresa's kneecaps, causing the girl to collapse and Eve roughly slaps her hand over her mouth, before smashing Teresa's head into the cabinet, knocking her unconscious in a second.
"A future of our own making."
Evelyn grabs a glass beaker from the table, rushing behind the man as he meets Thomas' gaze. Before he's able to inject himself, Evelyn smashes the glass over his head, causing him to drop to the floor and Thomas flinches away in shock. He turns back again, Janson's body now being replaced by Evelyn's. His eyes fly over her body, noticing her bruised cheek and bloodshot eyes.
