I know I showed Hailee's dress in the previous chapter, but it's my favorite, so she'll wear it again. Because I can XD.
"Pleeeeaaase Bootstrap, pretty pretty pleaseeee" Lilah begged as she looked up at Bootstrap with her signature puppy eyes. "Lilah, enough. If Bootstrap doesn't want to, you can't make him" She admonished firmly. Lilah sighed heavily at Hailee's tone. Even the Turners looked surprised. Hailee sighed at the looks she got and crouched down to Lilah's level. "Lilah, listen to me. Not everyone has had a peaceful life on a ship, with a reasonable captain" She said as she cupped Lilah's chin between her fingers, gently forcing her to look at her. "Now, for the last time, leave him be" She said firmly.
"I hate you!" Lilah screeched angrily "you cant yell at me! that's mama's job!" She yelled as she glared angrily, not use to scolding, especially from Hailee. "And where is mama, Lilah? gone, so you'll just have to deal with me" Hailee said trying her best to remail civil despite her temper flaring. Lilah growled as she stomped her foot and ran up the dock to the ship.
"She's not used to scolding, is she?" Henry voiced as he came up behind Hailee, who's back muscled tensed from Lilah's outburst. "She'll get used to it" Hailee said as she watched Lilah stomp onto the ship before turning to the Turners who's faces had a mix of surprise and admiration for the girl's parenting skills at a young age. "like it or not, I'm not just her sister, I'm her mother" She said firmly, a hint of bitterness at her situation.
Sighing she raked a hand through her hair and rubbed her neck firmly as more of a destressing method then anything else. "well, let's go" Bootstrap rasped as he made way to the ship "Father, your coming?" Will asked, confused at his father's change of heart. "never said no to a pretty face" He rasped with a wink at Hailee, who chuckled softly. The family grinned before they all boarded the ship.
After everything was finished and the ship had been sailing for an hour the family began falling into their usual routine. Though Lilah was still not speaking to Hailee. Hailee looked to see her Infront of the wheel, helping Will 'steer' the ship. Hailee sighed sadly as she glanced down at her mother's locket "you were always so good at this" She whispered sadly to herself "and I'm too much like father" She said softly as she looked down at the sword tied opposite to her dagger. She unsheathed it carefully and admired it.
"Was it your father's?" A deep voice came from behind startling her. She turned quickly to see Henry. upon turning she had a small frown and sadness behind her deep brown eyes. But she quickly replaced with a playful smirk. "No Henry. a very rugged, dare I say handsome sailor, with dark brown hair and eyes as black as coal, gave it to me as a parting gift as a declaration of his undying love for me" She said dramatically as she stepped closer. Henry noticed her cheeky tone and smirked "Well then Miss Wade, I'm assuming being on a ship with another dare I say, handsome, sailor is incredibly inappropriate?" He said with a smirk as he inched closer to her. "oh yes, terribly" Hailee grinned playfully as she leaned in till her face was inches from his. both glanced down at each other's lips before Henry began leaning closer. Hailee also leaned in until she could feel his warm breath tickling her lips.
She pulled back "I can't" She said softly. Henry looked questionably at her "You kissed me last night" He whispered. "i-it was a thank you kiss Henry, it didn't mean anything" Hailee whispered as she looked away. "you don't mean that" Was Henry's whispered reply as he gently cupped her chin to look at him. "don't you dare tell me what i do and don't mean" She snapped. "well you don't" Henry argued, his annoyance rising. "I do too" She argued childishly. "Hailee-" "Good day Mr. Turner" She snapped as she ripped her chin from his grasp and stomped off to the cabin. Henry sighed as his hand dropped.
"That went well" Will said calmly, as he leaned on the mass of the ship with his arms crossed and a playful smirk,, startling Henry. "tell me about it" He said as he flinched as he heard the cabin door slam. "what'd I do wrong?" Henry said as he looked at Will. "well for one, you told her she's wrong" He said as if it were obvious "have you learned nothing from your mother's temper? never tell a women she's wrong" Will said. "yeah I got that father, how can i fix it?" Henry said exasperated. Will chuckled softly as his son "give it time" He said as he patted his shoulder. "Will, Henry! hate to break this father-son moment" Bootstrap rasped from the wheel. "but there's some troubling waters ahead" Bootstrap said as Will jogged up the stairs to the wheel with Bootstrap. "I have a bad feeling, Will" Elizabeth said at Will's side. "so do I" He said.
