MIKE TORRENTES. John came all giggly and happy to us after the meeting with Cian. I became slightly jealous of it, what was their conversation so important and good to make John feel that way? Jealousy wasn't the main worry I had in mind, so I quickly took my fear and locked it inside my brain and carried on with our plan.
John told us everything Cian knew about Doctor Hera, in the beginning it wasn't much that we could work with, until he mentioned my father.
"What do you mean she knew my father?" I asked John rapidly and coldly.
"No-I didn't say she knew him. But she was investigated after he died!" He tried to smooth things over.
"Killed you mean..." I slipped "Anyways. There's nothing in Arizona for us to investigate, so where could she be?"
"Seattle! Cian told me she's known there too!"
"If she's well known, then it will be hard to find her!" Jennifer came off the darkness.
"Oh hey!" I tapped her shoulder "Your hips are still hurting?"
"Nah-don't worry about it!" She struggled to sit straight."Seattle then huh?" Lin commented from the front seat "It will be a long drive!"
"Will we have enough gasoline?" Jennifer then questioned.
All of us had just a couple bucks in our pockets, so gasoline was definitely the biggest worry together with food and water, even in the middle of Los Angeles.
"No. That's why I was thinking of stopping at a friend's".
"A friend's?" I was worried.
"Aren't y'all wanted by the police? It's kind of a dumbass move to meet a stranger" Jennifer commented from the back.
"Guys! You think I would let y'all get caught?" Lin knocked our heads with his fist "I trust him...and you trust me right?"
"Yeah we do," I smiled.
"So. What's his name? And where does he live?" Mike then asked.
"His name is Alexander. Alex! He lives in Elko!"
"Where the fuck is that?" Jennifer shouted.
"Nevada," John said, "Wait! Nevada? Like north of Nevada?"
"Yeah man! We're going north either way! There we can rest for like a day and then hit the road again" Lin explained.
We all shook our heads in agreement, and as Lin left the driveway, I decided to do something reckless, just to revive the old me for a bit.
"Can we-can we stop at my old apartment? Please!"
They all looked at me like I was crazy, and I knew my request was oddfor the moment, but I thought that since I was going to fucking Seattle, I could at least say a true goodbye to the old life I was almost building to perfection.
Lin tried to convince me to forget all about it. Even back in Julia's trailer, he would always tell me the best medicine was letting go, and although I would agree with him, I thought it made no sense to say goodbye without looking at the person-or the thing to be more exact. As the car stopped at a nearby alley, I carefully stepped out and watched every single step I took until I reached the front door of the building. I entered attentively with my cap on, and once I reached the glass front desk, I used my powers for once to make the guy give me the extra key I knew they had with them. To be honest, I hated myself every time I had to use my powers.
I reached the tenth level and waited for the cold air to hit my body. I stood between the elevator and the hallway until it beeped and almost chopped my arm off. For the luck of me, the camera in the level was broken and the lights as well, it made it for a terror scene, but there was nothing scary in my head, only a eccentric feeling of nostalgia.
