MIKE TORRENTES. The sirens broke my eardrums and for a moment I was lost in the middle of the world, seeing things all stretched and zoomed out, I had lost sight of John, and when I was able to gather myself again, I realized Big J was running away. I took the will to finish what I started and began to chase the monstrosity of a man. Memories flashed in my mind of all the things that happened up to that cold night; the times John and I stayed together at the firepit on our junkyard house, the graduation party that just had to go wrong, the desert nights in the middle of Arizona, the rainy storm on Elpida that shook the entire town and so much more that I was able to survive through. I was responsible for a lot of those moments, but I would never have guessed I was years later running in a cargo port, looking for the man that hurt me in my childhood and also escaping the final judgment of the police.
As I ran like bolt lightning, thunderstorms blended with the sound of sirens, street lights passed like flashes, and footsteps melodies began to tickle my brain. I would look back to see if there was anyone following me but all I could catch was the glimpse of the metal gates entrance that were so far away. Then I looked ahead and would see the moving shadow of Big J missing steps and moving swiftly from one path to the other to almost the point of me losing him. I became impatient, I had no time for some dark-sided play of catch, and for sure wasn't going to lose the game, so I would raise my hand and move the cargo my way with my own powers and throw them like car toys for a child that has always gotten what they wanted. The vibrance of containers falling on the harsh ground like flower vases on a wooden floor alerted the cops, and they soon began shouting things I could not understand from a distance, plus I wasn't interested on what they had to say, I was unable to, I had something fixated in my head and I wasn't going to let it fade away like so many other things in my life. So I turned backwards and blocked every way possible for anyone to follow me, it was time for me to face Big J alone.
I caught him trying to get inside of a boat that seemed just ready to take off into the vast sea that was just a few steps away from where we were. This time, I wasn't the little kid ready to be thrown out of his own home, I wasn't the one who would let advocates of the devil decide on what I wanted or needed to do, and I wasn't the one losing the battle.
Big J slowly stepped away from the boat and looked at me like he was better than me, his chin was up and his eyes were darkened to the point I could see the nothingness of his soul. It was just me and him that moment, a man with a gun ready to be used and a man with unexplained powers that sometimes would feel like a curse and then like a gift from the heavens.
There was a moment in which we didn't do anything but stared at each other, and when none of us expected it, we both pulled our weapons and marked our stance. His pistol was just like Hera's, and through his eyes I could tell he was shitting his pants at the sight of my simple hands being up in the air.
"So. How are we going to do this huh?" He seized through his decaying mouth.
"I don't know-it's not like we have much time in our hands!" I replied coldly.
"You know what's funny Mike?" He smirked "You seem to never understand yourself-always getting into trouble, making mistakes over and over again-"
"I have you to blame!" I broke his speech short.
"Me?" He laughed maniacally "Have you stopped drinking meds? I never did anything to you"
I felt my blood boil under my skin, the cold of that night was suddenly nonexistent, I kept so much hatred for the man that was in front of me, that all I could think was how to kill him in the most painful way, but I was fighting that urge just like I held when I was faced with my own father, that night in Seattle I knew better and had to show it to myself.
