Jayce and Ben had arrived at the boatyard within the hour, and the two kids were determined to get Rose back. Hiding behind cargo crates, they glance around. The yard is empty, but someone is talking inside the old warehouse.

They stay in their spot, listening in on the barely audible conversation in hopes for any clue that the girl was here. Although, what they heard contradicted their information.

"How long do we have to stand here?"

"Until the kid gets here."

Two voices, both older and male..

"How long will that be..?"

"I dunno, could be another hour. It's a kid, her navigation skills are probably shit. You have that thing set to stun, right?"

"Yeah, I- wait, hold on it was on fry.."

"Damn it, Casper, pay more attention. If you kill the girl, guess what's gonna happen to us?"

"We're gonna die?"

"Yeah, so shut the fuck up, check your gun, and wait for the goddamn kid."

There was a pause.

"It's cool to be working with Goose, huh?"

"Shut up, Casper."

So it was a trap. Jayce curses under her breath as she pulls her phone from her pocket, quickly attempting to shoot her mother a text, but groaning as it relays that she has no service. Glancing around the corner of the crate, she spots a crowd of men surrounding a small figure with blonde hair.
"Rose is here," She whispers to her friend, who peeks his head around as well.
"But they're expecting us. Either my source's source set us up... Or I've been texting one of the bad guys."

"You've been texting someone you don't even know?" Ben scoffs lightly. "Talk about immature."

"Hey, my mom wouldn't be a superhero without the magic of texting the wrong number. In fact, I'm gonna get us some help right now with that very magic." Jayce pulls out her phone, huffing and sliding it back into her pocket. "I forgot there's no service.."

"Ha ha-"

"Shut up, Ben."

Her eyes wander the layout of the boatyard, gaze landing on a particular area where multiple of the crates are open.
"You're strong, right?" Ben nods. "Can you close those?"
The brunet follows her eyes, spying the containers and nodding again.

"What are you planning?"

"Something really dumb."

. . .

Casper Wolfe and Aiden Xavier had been waiting in that cold, creepy ass boatyard for hours. Things remained silent the whole time, besides the sounds of water crashing against the wooden posts of the docks, the sounds of the night and their own breathing.

A few other men stand around, guns up and ready, their heads on a swivel. The young Leeds had been placed in their center, sitting cross-legged and tied up, her blond hair covering her face as her head rested slump, chin against clavicle.

The clatter of metal catches their attention, though. Aiden raises his hand and brings a finger to his lips before pointing towards the sound, waving his partner to his side to make their way over. It shouldn't be too hard to keep the girl away from the heroes, given they were dealing with literal children.

"Why did we have to do this at the boatyard..?" Casper whispers, earning a soft glare from Aiden.
"It's creepy as hell, and so dark and foggy.."

"Would you shut up, Cas? We're literally stalking them right now, and you still feel the need to yap-" another sound cuts him off, their heads whipping to the right, which is when they see a small figure race around a corner.
"Jesus fuck.. I'll admit this looks like a horror movie.."

"Do we have to follow the child figure into the darkness?" Casper whines, holding up his gun as he already knew the answer.

"Unfortunately so."

With the lack of sound from their other coworkers, the ocean ambiance became eerie, their footsteps echoing against the void of space around them.
Another set of footsteps races past somewhere to their left, quiet girly giggles trailing after it.

"Oh hell no," Aiden lifts his gun, turning on his heel and trying to find at least one figure to shoot at and hopefully end the ghost girl atmosphere. When he turns on the other hand, his eyes meet glowing ones, the bright orange making the irises look like they were made of flames. He lets out a yell of fear, firing at the barely visible figure, but his electric blast passes right through the being, their body wafting like it was made of smoke.

That was all it took for the man turn run. He grabs Casper's wrist in a surge of panic and just drags him along. He races into one of the shipping containers, pulling his partner to the far end and raising his gun to somehow keep this ghost away.

The two freeze in terror as they watch her stand in the entrance, laugh softly while tilting her head, and hear her whisper echo throughout the crate.
"Enjoy the darkness, boys~"

A/N;

HOWDY
I've been inactive for quite a while now haven't I? Especially when it came to this book! December of 2022?? Goddamn. Unfortunately the reason for this was because the writers curse hath befallen me. Divorced parents, 5 moves, 4 dead siblings and 2 breakups!! ALL IN A YEAR. I've been busy fr. Not sure how often I'll be writing, given I'm hyperfixated on military/apocalyptic things at the moment, and my other siblings arrive back home sometime this month, but I shall try to continue it! I really did miss these characters and I'm excited to bring them back to life with the writing talent of a now almost adult (I'm so old wow)

Anywhosies, glad to be writing for you again my goslings

Larb you 3,000 <333
And please avoid the pretentious plague that tends to fall upon most writers these days.
