•abnormal interest in or administration got yourself“ I'm telling you guys, that man is so gorgeous!” ,I say to the screen with three faces looking right back at me.
I'm on a zoom chat with my friends and we're dishing out the latest,I could say that this is like our daily ritual as friends where we get on a zoom meeting and talk about how our days went and how we're feeling .
“ You lie! More handsome than boss Kwanza chomie?” , Gcina says. We all laugh.
“ I'm telling you friend, that guy is dreamy yho", I say fanning myself with my hand.
“So when is the date”, That's Stacey chirping in.
“Yes,what are you waiting for girl?” ,Wendy.
“Guys ,I've just came out of a two year relationship, isn't it too soon?” , I say .
“Babe, we all know that relationship was shitty and you deserve to have a good time, come on call him and just go on the damn date!” , Stacey really makes sense.
“Yes!Tell her Stace!”
“ okay fine,I'll call him tommorow.”
We chat and after some time we say our goodbyes and I go to the kitchen to make myself some food. I opt for pasta and chicken strips and some wine.
I need to do some grocery shopping when I get paid , there's no food in this house.
As I'm eating my phone rings from the kitchen. I go get it. It's an unknown number.
“Hello?”, I say picking up.
“err,Londiwe mntanami” ,
What the heck?, “Mama?is that you?”
“Ewe ndim mababy, please don't hang up",She says.
“After a whole year mama?why now?” , I start tearing up.
This woman has got to be kidding me. She left me with my grandmother to play vat 'n sit with a married man ,came for her funeral and then left right after. Why now?
“Ndicela uxolo mntanami, please forgive me”, I hear her crying on the other side.
“ Why now mama? Do you know how much I suffered after you left?", At this moment I'm fuming with anger .
“I'm sorry , baby listen,I don't have much time please come fetch your brother . I know I did you wrong but please”, this woman has got to be crazy.
“ now why would I do that ”, don't get me wrong I love my brother, he's the only sibling I have ,well , half- sibling but still she can't just say jump and expect me to ask how high.
“Please Londi, Mandla's wife from the bundus found out about us and now she came back . Mandla is kicking me and Kwazi out of the house and I can't go with him to the Eastern Cape ,I can't give my sister two extra mouths to feed so ndiyakucela mntanami", She begs.
I sigh, “Okay fine, when will you send him here and when are you leaving to the Eastern Cape?”
“Oh,thank you mntanami. I'm leaving tomorrow so I can accompany him to the rank at dawn so he can be at Joburg sooner.”
“Okay mah, goodnight and tell Kwazi that I love him” , I cut the call and go to my bedroom.
My mother can be very selfish. We were living with my grandmother and when I was eight she gave birth to Kwazi and then left with him. Mind you that I was still a child and couldn't understand why my mother left me. The neighbours would talk and I only heard from my grandmother when I was a teenager that she left to Durban with Kwazi's father whom is a married man from KwaZulu Natal, clearly he left his wife back home. Don't get me wrong I was happy and loved by my grandmother but I also needed my mother.
I tried asking gogo about my father's whereabouts but she always said that my mom has the answers, ngoba she also doesn't know and so I just stopped asking about him.My mother and Grandmother are from the rural areas of Eastern Cape meaning that they're Xhosa, but my Grandfather was a Zulu cultured man hence my grandmother always spoke isiZulu.
But enough about my family....
I sit on my bed and dial Qhawe's number. It rings twice and he picks up.
“Qhawe Majola , hello", oh so his surname is Majola? I think I've heard that name before but I don't know where.
“Hello!” , he say again.“uhh, hi,it's me...Londiwe”, I say.
“Oh , hi Londi. I'm guessing you've made up your mind about the date?” , he say and I bet he is smiling on the other line.
“Yes..it's a Yes, I'll go on a date with you .”, I close my eyes, and suck in my breath.
“I promise you won't regret it,How about Sunday evening?”
Hehehe, kanene bathi Sunday are for lavas and dates. I'm grinning!
“Sounds good to me, it's a date.”, I say smiling like a retard.
“ it's a date then . Uhm...can I send someone to drive you to work and back?I don't think it's safe for a lady to walk to the rank in the evening”, He sounds like he's holding his breath.
“ Dude,I've been using taxis for a while now and nothing has ever happened to me,I'm always on the lookout.” , he even has someone to come pick me up,wow.
“I know, but please let me do this”
“Okay fine, you can send someone” I say to him.
“Ngiyabonga nkosazane” ,He says in a deep Zulu accent and my heart skips a beat.
“Goodnight,Qhawe", I say and drop the call.
This was one eventful day , I need to get some rest. I get undercovers and let sleep consume me.
