McCarthy's POV
—————————————

Not even a day with these men and I am already a target for intimidation... This 'Ghost' guy seems very reserved and untrusting, but in this line of work, who can blame him? The Scottish guy named Soap seems to like me very much, but I can't take him too seriously with that Mohawk he has.

I enter the base with Captain Price and the other boys, hoping to get more information about our mission than what was in Laswell's letter. We go into a room with a round table and many chairs set up to look like a meeting room, so we all sit. Price begins by explaining the missiles located in the Russian camp, showing us photographs taken from the air. Given by the photographs alone there was no way to tell who they belonged to, but Price insists that they are not Russian, so that was off the table. He then has me formally introduce myself and my opinion regarding where to start with this mission. When the boys found out I came from America as an Irishwoman, Ghost seemed to tense up at this while the other boys were shocked by my lack of an 'American' accent.

I wonder if an American soldier betrayed them... I thought to myself.

I then explained how we would move forward with the mission given the information we have. "While I have no doubts in this team's abilities for this mission, a 5 man team is most likely not enough for this to be successful. Do you have any allies we could consider for this?" I said turning to Price. "We have soldiers in Mexico that became our allies during our mission regarding Hassan, named Alejandro Vargas and Rodolfo Parra, I think they could help us again with this." He responded. Ghost spoke up "How is our team not enough? We were able to take down Hassan with only two members of this team. Wouldn't it be better to not add extra hands to this already dangerous mission?" He had a point, the mission was very dangerous and a smaller squad WOULD do better, but with the Russians having unidentified missiles in their hands, anything is possible.

"How long do we have to get this mission done?" I asked.

Price responds with "Within the next month, I don't know what the Russians have planned but if they're carrying unidentified missiles on their grounds, it can't be good." I nod at him, it seems Price's leadership is the best to follow at this moment, so it was better if I stayed quiet.

Price dismissed us from the meeting, giving me time to gather my things and set up in the base. The young man called Gaz helped me, but I let him go after we dropped my stuff off in my new room.

About half an hour passed by, and I heard a firm knock on my door, which startled me. I got up from my bed and opened the door, and a 6'4" figure with a skull mask hovered over me.

Lieutenant Ghost was at my door? Why?

"Oh, hi Lt. Did you need something?" I asked politely, avoiding any outburst from him. He didn't say anything, just shoving himself into my room and plopping on the chair situated in front of my desk. I stood at my door staring at him until he said "close the door" in a stern tone. I shut it, remaining by the door away from him as he sat in front of me, he looked rather annoyed by my presence, and I was growing rather annoyed by that. After about a minute of awkward silence he finally spoke, "what are your intentions with this team, aye? You really think you can just waltz on into our squad and try to boss us around like we're kids. I don't want to deal with another fucking betrayal that put my partners' lives on the line, especially not from a short stack like you."

Short stack??? I mean I may be about a foot smaller than him but come ON.

Before I let my anger get the best of me, I decided to tell him the full truth, I wanted this man to trust me, considering we're the same rank AND we'd be working together for a while. "Laswell sent me a letter recruiting me to the Task Force within 3 weeks of me receiving it. She claimed that due to my experience with missile development and my position as Lieutenant, I could help the team identify the missiles easily without risk of a communication breach. If you would like to know, I have extensive training in knife and rifle combat, so I can protect myself and the team when it's needed. You do not need to worry about betrayal, I have been considered an incredibly loyal soldier, and considering the mission at hand, a betrayal on my end would make no sense. I am only here to help you identify who the missiles belong to, and if you so please, I will ensure I leave the squad when the mission is done and you will never have to see me again."

As I finished, I saw his gaze soften and him slouch back in the chair, his hands resting on his thighs. Well when he looks like that... I felt a blush beginning to form on my cheeks, and I was incredibly embarrassed at myself for thinking about a fellow soldier in that way, especially since I can't even see his face. I stood there in silence until he cleared his throat. "Well, I have no reason to believe you would be lying about any of that, but if you do anything that puts my team's lives on the line, I will not hesitate to put you into the fucking ground where you'll belong, is that clear?" I nodded quickly, a bit unsettled by his sudden threat, but a bit relieved that he trusted me.

Before he leaves, Ghost turns to me and says "I have a feeling Price will be having us work together the most, I wanted to make sure I could trust you before I'm alone with you... welcome to the team McCarthy."

Wow. That man is going to do things to me... I could already feel my heart beating faster at his last comment. I decided to ignore my sudden feelings and finished unloading my gear and other belongings.
