Ghost's POV
———————————How the fuck did we get caught?! My mind was racing, thinking of reasons as to why Scythe and I had to run for our lives from the camp just then, and now we lost communication with Price and the rest of our team.
To make matters worse, Scythe managed to get shot in the arm twice, so I had to race back to the safehouse to get her patched up.
When we made it to the safehouse, I had to practically drag her into the main room because she was exhausted. I can't say I can be annoyed by this, she did just give us a big lead on our investigation. There were no medics nearby so I had to go back and fix her stitches myself, luckily I had training in first aid so I was able to use the supplies in the house to patch her up properly. Before I started fixing her stitches, I decided to cut off the entire sleeves from her coat and shirt. It was quiet in the house.
She suddenly broke the silence between us. "I'm really sorry, Ghost" she said to me.
Why was she apologizing?
I looked at her, saying nothing, but saying everything I needed to. She looked like she was about to start crying.
She looked down and started speaking rapidly again. "I am in way over my head with this, somehow my first day of action with the team and we managed to lose three of us, we have no idea where they are or if they're even alive... I bet you guys could have found what you needed without me, all I've done is fail you guys. I mean, I literally managed to get shot back there, what kind of Lieutenant am I?" She must think that I think of her as a burden, which just isn't true.
I couldn't let her think like that, especially since she's proven to be valuable to our team already. I finally broke the silence that filled the room. "None of what you said is true, sure we got separated from the rest of our team but knowing them, they're probably on their way back right now. You also single-handedly got us the exact intel we needed to move forward with the mission. In my opinion, Olivia, I think you're the most valuable soldier here right now."
She looked up at me, most likely shocked that I referred to her by her first name. To be frank, I accidentally let it slip out just then, I didn't know if I made her uncomfortable. She quickly moved her gaze to her injured arm after giving me a small smile.
Ah shit, I made her uncomfortable...
I finished patching her up, put clean gauze over her wound, wrapped up her arm with a bandage and then went to grab a clean jacket from our room. When I got back, I helped her take off her coat and shirt, and then put on the new jacket I grabbed.
"Thanks for helping me... this means a lot" she said softly, giving me a sad smile.
I don't know why it killed me to see her in pain like this, maybe because she was blaming herself for what happened back at the camp.
"And by the way, I don't mind if you call me Olivia."
She got up and walked towards the couch in the main room and lied down. Five minutes later she ended up passed out on it, she must have been exhausted from everything that happened today. I went into our room and got her spare blanket from her bed, and put it over her so she could keep warm.
This isn't bothering me at all, which is really surprising coming from me.
I sat by the front door of the safehouse, keeping watch to see if Price makes it back. Luckily Johnny and I had given each other tracking devices to keep each other safe, so I was able to see that Johnny was moving around, and was safe. All I had to do was wait.
